Major Hurricane Michael Live Thread II
NHC/NOAA ^ | 9 October 2018 | NHC/NOAA

Posted on 10/09/2018 4:49:06 PM PDT by NautiNurse

Major Hurricane Michael is churning toward the northeastern Gulf of Mexico coast. Florida Governor Rick Scott declared a state of emergency Monday for 35 counties with mandatory coastal evacuations in the FL Panhandle. 1,250 National Guard troops are aiding the process and more than 4,000 more placed on standby.

FEMA is already on the ground in Florida; other federal agencies are also preparing to assist people in the storm's path.

Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey on Monday declared a state of emergency for the entire state. Georgia Governor Nathan Deal issued a state of emergency for 92 counties ahead of Hurricane Michael landfall.

Meanwhile, Tallahassee city government (Andrew Gillum, Mayor & D'Rat FL Gubernatorial candidate) offices are "closed until further notice." Tallahassee International Airport ‏is suspending commercial flight activity as 12:01 a.m. ET on Wednesday but expects to resume activity on Thursday.

The U.S. military moved its aircraft from the Panhandle on Monday. Roughly 50 F-22 stealth fighter jets — valued around $150 million each — have been relocated from the Tyndall Air Force Base, while the U.S. Navy said it is moving all its training aircraft from Pensacola.

Energy Production The Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement (BSEE) on Tuesday estimated that around 726 MMcf/d (28.4%) of natural gas production and 670,831 b/d (39.5%) of oil production in the GOM had been shut in ahead of the storm.

As of midday Tuesday, 75 platforms and three rigs had been evacuated, while eight dynamically positioned rigs had been moved out of the storm’s path as a precaution, according to BSEE.

Sorry, the only way to put this is that you are a flaming a-hole. There are ample reports on the ground of catastrophic damage, and all you can do is pretend that those on the ground are lying. Get lost.

So, let me ask a couple serious questions. First, why post discussion threads if you don't want to engage in discussions? And, second, why be rude and try and chase people off?

I and others have pointed out disconnects in the reporting, asked questions, and all we get is grief from the two of you. Sad. FR is better than this. Luckily most people are more respectful and engaging.

And for others on the thread, do you prefer insults or substantive discussions?

Sorry, but you are so wedded to your point of view that you have disregarded and downplayed reports all day of catastrophic damage. So you ain’t worth debating. You are only worth condemning. Idiots like you give conservatives a bad name in situations like this.

The hurricane is news. Your opinions aren’t.

A Mexico Beach camera on Weather Channel accelerated to show the entire day showed the storm come and go, never put water over the road.

You are a complete jackass. I have seen several videos showin surge either halfway up houses in St. George Island or surge up to the eaves in Mexico Beach. I have seen eyewitness reports around the area of catastropic damage. You are a textbook example of the dangers of confirmation bias in this day and age, a-hole.

Your incessant whining is boring, and unsubstantiated in the face of facts. You have an annoying habit of claiming to speak for others. You are inept regarding hurricanes, even though you live in the hurricane capital of Reno, NV. Finally, there are none so blind as those who will not see. You may quote me on that.

See ya.

Yep, he pointed to Panama City Beach as proof the hurricane was overstated. Panama City Beach was well to the west of the western eyewall, and anyone who knows anything about hurricanes knows that is the weak side of the storm outside the eyewall and there is no surge on that side.

In other words, he is an uninformed idiot when it comes to hurricanes.

And by the way, the pictures I saw earlier are always tight shots and the bigger ones show much less damage

Funny, I saw a video of an extensive drive in Panama City that showed extensive damage block after block. I saw videos of extensive damage and deep surge in Mexico Beach. You pretend otherwise, idiot. Anyone who is so wedded to a point of view is contemptible. You would spread lies to promote such. That is the way of liberals, not conservatives.

Can’t be true. The Troll said PWS in Panama City didn’t register higher than 40 mph winds.

Thank you for making all these hurricane threads over the years. For the millions of people affected, the information is critical. I'm not there now, but lots of family members are.

Looks a lot like Puerto Rico. For comparison, Google “Images Hurricane Maria, Puerto Rico.”

Took those condos right out

We have a freeper on Cape San Blas which like Mexico is flat as Taylor Swift was. And just out

I bet it took that famed 1-2 o’clock directional wind hit

Anyone seen that person posting?

I am in Columbus, GA. The power stayed on which was surprising. I have 4 UPS devices to keep the PC and DirecTV boxes going. We had some heavy rain and it had been windy all day, but nothing like Albany or to the south of our ocation.

Beautiful and destructive juxtaposition

It’s always red sky at night after a big storm

Dude! With 100mph wind gusts this was a no joke storm, yes I usually mock them. The commercial damage on the coastal areas alone will give a clue to what the residential damage will be.

They are hyping the storm damage for good reason on this one. This is a storm that deserves attention. As do the people affected by it!
