How Trump made GOP control more likely post-November

Monday, the White House announced a new agreement among Mexico, Canada, and the USA to end the NAFTA treaty and replace it with the USMCA treaty. Donald Trump has managed to confound the pundits again and get an agreement likely to expand the economy of the USA. His genus is that he managed to give both Canada and Mexico a winning situation, so all nations benefit. The loser is likely to be China, as more material sourcing and manufacturing will occur in North America. With improved economic conditions, the Republicans hope to maintain control of both houses of Congress.

This is more likely since Monday's announcement. The latest polling data indicate that the Republican base is coalescing behind nominees of its party. A Marist poll conducted 9/26/18 shows that 93% of Republicans intend to vote for the members of Congress from their districts compared to 88% a month ago. Further, the generic poll found that Democrats lead 48-41% but that the range has narrowed since last month, when it was 12%. Those data were collected just after the death of Senator McCain, when the media ran wall-to-wall coverage aimed at hurting Donald Trump. That damage has now passed us.

In the Midwest, the lead in generic polling shows Democrats leading, 48-43%, but that has narrowed from 51-37% a month ago. This substantial change shows how fluid the election outcome may be. With all the negative news in the mainstream media, one would doubt that Donald Trump has any support nationwide. In this poll, 87% of Republicans approve of Trump’s job performance compared to 81% a month ago. Nationwide Trump’s approval rating is at 42%, up 3% in a month.

Polls show WRT hearing believability, it’s a wash.

And, for Democrats, that is an absolute nightmare.

They connived like thieves.....had it all planned.

They’d lacerate Kav and Repubs ......and collect the votes at midterm.

Too frickin’ bad.....that aint happening.

Yep, they’re idiots. They should have just let the nomination go through in a timely way (they could have still slimed Kav and Trump and used that in the midterm campaigns). Then complacency would take hold among us repubs, and it would be a “normal” election (i.e. we lose). Now this election is as abnormal as can be, and it’s only a month out. They woke a sleeping giant, and they’re no telling what that old giant will do. But I would be afraid if I were Nanzi Pelousi.

“His genus is that he managed to give both Canada and Mexico a winning situation, so all nations benefit.”

There is going to be an epic realignment next year, when the main tariffs hit China. Huge chunks of the supply chain will be pulled out from China, and a lot will move to the USA, Mexico and China. Plenty to go around - the biggest pot of business gold that there is to take.

If the President goes ahead with 25% tariffs on the rest of Chinese imports, business will be re-shoring (much) faster than they off-shored. It will be a once in a lifetime change.

Nitpick: I think you meant moving to the USA, Mexico, and CANADA, not China, right? (That was fairly clear from the context, just verifying.)

Trump is nobody's fool - if he fails it's because we failed him...

Time to invest in our FReedom by supporting him and FR in more than words....the enemy is relentless and we need to be equally so.

Yes, mis-statement on my part, it should read: moving to the USA, Mexico, and CANADA - not China.

JMHO, and nobady asked, but here is my thought....

The Dems have moved so far left, both the elected officials and their base, that they have no choice but to play to the wacky left base if they want anyone to vote for them this Nov. Its a losing play, but they have been setting themselves up for failure for the last 25 years with the socialist agenda that only 30% of the country would ever get behind. And the number is only that high as a result of indoctrination and ignorance.

Celebrate the "unexpected" Blue Wave
