Quebec election 2018: Coalition Avenir Québec wins historic majority of seats
Globe and Mail ^

The Liberals have held power in the province for 13 of the last 15 years, except for a brief PQ minority government from 2012 to 2014.

A CAQ victory would mark the first time in nearly 50 years that the province would be led by a party other than the Liberals or the PQ.

I have no idea what all this means but if it is a slap in the face to Ms Trudeau I’m good with it.

You can chalk it up to same thing that is happening in Quebec as is happening in Europe.

Muslims.

When I lived in Fort Lauderdale, I was convinced that nobody stayed in Quebec during the winter, they were all in Fort Lauderdale. I saw more Quebec plates than Florida plates.

New PM from Macleans. They haven't figured out how to call him far right yet:

Francois Legault, Coalition Avenir Quebec Legault has been the leader of the CAQ ever since the party was founded in 2011. Prior to politics, het was a businessman who founded Air Transat in 1986, before transitioning to the Parti Quebecois for the 1998 provincial election. He was a former cabinet minister during his years with the PQ, but co-founded the CAQ as a big-tent party of Quebecers with a promise they would never support a referendum on Quebec sovereignty. Big tent aside, his party is most closely identified in this election race for tighter controls on immigration.

They’re a coalition of Quebec nationalists and federalists.

The defeated Liberals were also center-right. Separatist PQ were socialist.

Next year Alberta is expected to oust its socialist NDP government.

Of course.

It never should of happened in the first place. The conservative vote was split between two parties. If you had added them up, they would of squashed the NDP hard. The conservatives are one party now. It should be easy unless they cheat very hard.

I saw more Quebec plates than Florida plates.

We typically go to the Sarasota/Bradenton area in January and we see lots of Ontario plates and some Nova Scotia.Not many Quebec.

Anything labeled centre-right in Quebec would be considered elsewhere as to the left of . Dont let the labels mislead you!

Media labels vs. Reality:
Socialist = Stalinist
Liberal = Marxist
Moderate = Socialist
Conservative = Liberal
Far-Right = Moderate
Ultraright/Racist/Bigot = Conservative Mainstream

Not in Canada.

The Quebec Liberals have no connection with the federal party apart from the name.

CAQ probably has an informal alliance with the federal Conservatives.

I’d want to break away from that wretched Canadian government too. Same human spirit and drive for freedom from tyranny that has propelled people from the beginning of time. More recent examples in the US include the South and millions of people during the 8 long miserable gut wrenching Obama years.
