IIRC a freeper pointed out that there was no Safeway there at that time. In 1982 it was a deli apparently and then an Albertson’s later.

Mark Judge wrote about his job there in his book from what I’ve read. He also wrote about his hangovers as an alcoholic drinker starting around this time. As has been apparent for the longest time, Mark Judge is the script to this made up story...she uses him as the only reference point.

I remember Potomac Village as far back as the mid-1980s. I was a Safeway by then.

Before running with the notion that it wasn’t always a Safeway, it should be confirmed one way or other.
