I’m afraid this AZ prosecutor won’t succeed at getting to the truth: at least based on the first rounds.
I want Lindsey Graham to question her.
Actually, Ms. Mitchell was a little dismaying to start out but I’m starting to get the sense that she’s pinning Ford down, she does have a direction and is getting more pointed and specific. I think she’ll wind up being an asset to the defense of Kavanaugh, Ms. Mitchell.
I think she’s doing a good job in building her case. She is not going to detonate the witness in one fell swoop, but take her story apart bit by bit. I’m impressed with how she’s taken Ford back before the party began to fill in the entire picture rather than allow her to keep it limited to what she claims are her clear memories.
I don’t think this is about “getting to the truth” because she’s not going to add one iota of new information and the prosecutor is likely not going to press her hard enough to break through the conditioning and fabricated truth.
But this will check a box, and I fully expect the committee to vote and send this nomination to the full Senate tomorrow.
This is all political. They’re going to boot it upstairs where all 100 politicians sit and let the votes fall where they may.
Had Grassley NOT held this hearing the vote in the Senate would have no doubt failed due to outrage over not hearing from all witnesses, etc, ad nauesum.
