Well, maybe it’s true. Suppose you’re a guy who remembers horseplay with Miss Blasey in Summer of ‘82 that is remarkably similar to what she alleges happened with BK, could you in good conscience let BK take the rap for what you believe you did? Many guys would be hesitant to ‘fess up, for obvious reasons, but maybe this fellow is a remarkably stand-up guy.
If this is true and Chris Garrett turns out to be the one they’re talking to (he has been completely out of the news even after being “slandered” in that interesting theory posted on Twitter), then I’m going to recommend Ed Whelan for Deputy U.S. Attorney General when Rosenstein checks himself into an insane asylum.
One other factor: This man might have a witness to attest to his story and his version of events. Dr. Ford’s claim (as I read in the WashPost) is that there were 2 men in the room.
If Dr. Ford’s story is basically true, and she just got the guy mixed up (not impossible, it was a 34 year old recovered memory!) then the guy should be able to name the other man in the room.
And with a witness to back his version of events - he would undoubtedly say he was just horsing around and they had no intention of rape or harming her - it would flip the story on its head. From 1 accuser and 2 deniers, to 1 accuser and 2 confessors. They would agree to the general fact pattern, and disagree only on motive and identity.
If Kavanaugh is not conformed because of the sexual accusations, how can he possibly be fit to sit on the Court now? The chain of fall out will continue for years.
