Gregg Jarrett: Rod Rosenstein's coup attempt to depose Trump should not go unpunished
Fox News ^ | September 21, 2018 | Gregg Jarrett

Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein’s actions, as recounted by the New York Times Friday, are the equivalent of an attempted coup -- a plot to overthrow the president.

As the Times reveals, Rosenstein was furious that Democrats blamed him for the firing of FBI Director James Comey.

Rosenstein, who had volunteered to write the firing memorandum, was “regretful and emotional.” His behavior was described as “erratic.”

He blamed Trump.

So, in an apparent act of vengeance, he proposed secretly recording the president to try to gain damaging information about him.

He solicited others to wear wires, including Andrew McCabe, who was later fired as Assistant FBI Director. Rosenstein is said to have discussed recruiting cabinet members to depose Trump under the 25th Amendment.

All of this is reportedly evidenced in memos, including those written by McCabe.

Friday afternoon, in response to the Times story, Michael R. Bromwich, Andrew McCabe’s attorney issued this statement for the record:

"Andrew McCabe drafted memos to memorialize significant discussions he had with high level officials and preserved them so he would have an accurate, contemporaneous record of those discussions. When he was interviewed by the Special Counsel more than a year ago, he gave all of his memos -- classified and unclassified -- to the Special Counsel's office. A set of those memos remained at the FBI at the time of his departure in late January 2018. He has no knowledge of how any member of the media obtained those memos."

Rosenstein strongly denied that the facts recounted by the Times.

Interesting.

Speaking of Huber, Dan Bongino is hinting today that we are close to learning what a grand jury or two has been quietly doing for many months.

IIRC Rosenstein had been the Maryland US Attorney so he likely would have been a familiar face around DC.

Sounds like Andy McCabe- who, never forget, is linked to the corrupt Terry McAuliffe- was producing a lot of CYA memos passing the buck, maybe even for the purpose of blackmailing anyone who dares to flip against him or go after him.

His lawyers are free to say whatever they want to the press but the DOJ cannot officially say much in response.

The only people seriously considering the 25th amendment tactic are the Democrat Party loyalists in the media who are trying to bolster the spirits of the base for the elections and keep them hoping.
Everyone else but chicken littles on our side knows the 25th wouldn’t fly so long as Trump is up tweeting and breathing.

Maybe tomorrow the Kavenaugh accuser will name Rosenstein as a witness to the events at a Maryland party in the 1980s... forcing the FBI to investigate... ;-)

My memory is 'CIA'... Sessions specifically noted. I have looked briefly for any media reports but could not find. I do not have a particular trust of Rosenstein.. President Trump has already in place Obama's hammer when and if he needs it ... seems all is stored out in a vast warehouse in Utah.

Rosenstein should resign. Mueller should resign and take his Dem attorneys with him.

meanwhile, the Deep State keeps the Kavanaugh garbage front and center. enough.

however, if there weren’t some GOP Deep State-ers who state they won’t vote for Kavanaugh, there wouldn’t be a problem taking the vote now.

'We the people' need to give the President a Congress that will follow his lead. President Trump used the word 'complacency' of Republicans in his rally last night in Springfield, MO. I do not know enough to make that demand of Rosenstein... I have 'suspicions' regarding Rosenstein, but NO factual evidence... IF he is playing the 'resist' he will get his. Mueller is going to get to live by the same 'rules' he has placed... Presently, I kinda feel for his later end, he seems to be playing 'god' without the required armor.

Don’t fire Rosenstein. Let him stay within DOJ control (even if it is by the weak Rip Van Sessions). Then convene a grand jury for the whole “Deep State” - NYT/WP scheme to overthrow the President of the United States.

Take months to gather the evidence and then let the subpoenas fly like a hundred flocks of Canadian geese on the wing.

Spare nobody from the Deep State. Subpoenas for all and in some cases, seize their passports, freeze their accounts, seize their electronic equipment and files, and if necessary, hold some in jail as “material witnesses” who might be flight risks.

Time to take off the dishwasher gloves and put on some good old armored mail gauntlets, with spikes.

The problem here is that Rosenstein isn’t the head of the snake.
