Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosensteins actions, as recounted by the New York Times Friday, are the equivalent of an attempted coup -- a plot to overthrow the president.
As the Times reveals, Rosenstein was furious that Democrats blamed him for the firing of FBI Director James Comey.
Rosenstein, who had volunteered to write the firing memorandum, was regretful and emotional. His behavior was described as erratic.
He blamed Trump.
So, in an apparent act of vengeance, he proposed secretly recording the president to try to gain damaging information about him.
He solicited others to wear wires, including Andrew McCabe, who was later fired as Assistant FBI Director. Rosenstein is said to have discussed recruiting cabinet members to depose Trump under the 25th Amendment.
All of this is reportedly evidenced in memos, including those written by McCabe.
Friday afternoon, in response to the Times story, Michael R. Bromwich, Andrew McCabes attorney issued this statement for the record:
"Andrew McCabe drafted memos to memorialize significant discussions he had with high level officials and preserved them so he would have an accurate, contemporaneous record of those discussions. When he was interviewed by the Special Counsel more than a year ago, he gave all of his memos -- classified and unclassified -- to the Special Counsel's office. A set of those memos remained at the FBI at the time of his departure in late January 2018. He has no knowledge of how any member of the media obtained those memos."
Rosenstein strongly denied that the facts recounted by the Times.

Calm down for crying out loud. This is fake news.
Exactly. Because as of today NY Times stories based on anonymous sources are completely reliable and agenda free.
The NY Times is our friend. /s
When a law-enforcement officer is suspected or accused of a crime, they are usually suspended until internal investigations are conducted and concluded.
Rosenstein is suspected of an attempted coup against the highest office in the land. He needs to be gone, IMMEDIATELY, and Sessions has to be tasked with the deed to suspend and then investigate. If sessions doesn’t follow through, then, he could easily be fired for insubordination.
The deep state needs to be gone, and in some cases, execution should not be out of the question. Sedition is the biggest crime that can be committed in the country. There should have been many heads rolling already from the attempt to remove the president via the fabricated Russian collusion story.
Not an FBI investigation. FBI cannot be trusted. They have been garbage since JEdgar Hoover. They are rotten to the core. We need an outside special investigation and counsel with subpoena powers.
Meanwhile, DOJ and FBI need to be reformed. Congress needs to pass legislation to force DOJ and FBI to follow the Constitution and limit their power. We need transparency and accountability. No more withholding of documents and classifying documents to cover up crimes. We must have the means to more easily fire these people or if needed, civilly or criminally prosecute them for abuses. Withholding exculpatory evidence cannot be tolerated. This type of abuse must result in a long prison sentence for prosecutors. The use of extortion to gain cooperation and confessions from witnesses needs to be very carefully looked at. Stricter ethical policies are needed and penalties for ethical violations are necessary.
For the time being, juries should consider FBI agents and Federal prosecutors to be corrupt and the evidence that the present to be tainted until proven otherwise. If the Feds start losing in court, maybe they’ll will wake up and understand the need for change. Right now these bullies and fascists are living in a bubble.
somebody from the FBI cabal was going into meetings with Trump and recording them, and they also tried to organize a 25th amendment removal of him.
New and very interesting Rosenstein statement late tonight which suggests this theory:
“I never pursued or authorized recording the President and any suggestion that I have ever advocated for the removal of the President is absolutely false.”
Very specific language. I never pursued OR AUTHORIZED recording the President. This NYT article was clearly damage control for upcoming redacted texts and docs.
Why does Rosenstein deny “authorizing” recording the President? BECAUSE SOMEBODY ELSE DID.
Somebody is going to be outed in the declassified documents as having gone into a meeting with Trump, recorded it, and they planted this article to try to give themselves cover by saying that Rod Rosenstein authorized them to do so.
. Do not waste this opportunity. Although I would have no problem if the POTUS waits until mid-term election is out of the way.
I think he will wait until Kavanaugh is confirmed ..one thing at a time. Plus we will need this 5-4 majority in the very near future regarding these subpoenas.
I think you have that wrong:
When asked about his rapport with Rosenstein by The Wall Street Journal, Trump said, “It’s fantastic,” adding, “We have a great relationship. Make sure you tell them that.”
The guy Schmidt who is listed as one of the reporters for this story has been a documented purveyor of fabricated propaganda stories.
I was being more than a bit sarcastic given the current calls for FIB investigation.
Your proposals should be given serious consideration.
You must be kidding me. The NYT? LMAO.
Smoke and mirrors. actual n-degree chess.
One other resignation among them was declined — sort of. They accepted his resignation and then immediately re-appointed him to his own U.S. Attorney post. It was that Huber guy in Utah.
He’s not suspected of anything. A report in the New York Times with an accusation against Rod Rosenstein is no more reliable than a letter to Dianne Feinstein from Christine Buzzy Ford with an accusation against Brett Kavanaugh.
IMHO Rosenstein can be fired AFTER Mueller’s made his report. Right now he’s under massive pressure to ‘do the right thing’ because his bias has been outed. And if we need to counter parts of the report it’s nice to have some obvious bias to point out...
Fire him now and dems can use it for an ‘obstruction’ excuse if they retake Congress. There’s no hurry - we know where Rosenstein’s at - - and we have some idea of what he’s done.
Good points...There’s a lot on the plate now with this Ford fiasco and the midterms.
1. "The New York Times is Fake News."
2. "Check out this article in the New York Times! That's all we need to fire Rosenstein!"
Like I said ... baffling.
I sure wish I would save some things... Sessions in discussing the Rosenstein selection, noted the location of a particular government agency and Rosenstein's familiarity with said 'government agency'.
I hope this is received as it is meant.
I long for Pres Trump to make a national speech in a formal, informative, matter of fact, professional tone, explaining the corruption and there is no other way but they, each one, have to go., to save our nation.
