The deputy attorney general, Rod J. Rosenstein, suggested last year that he secretly record President Trump in the White House to expose the chaos consuming the administration, and he discussed recruiting cabinet members to invoke the 25th Amendment to remove Mr. Trump from office for being unfit.
Mr. Rosenstein made these suggestions in the spring of 2017 when Mr. Trump’s firing of James B. Comey as F.B.I. director plunged the White House into turmoil. Over the ensuing days, the president divulged classified intelligence to Russians in the Oval Office, and revelations emerged that Mr. Trump had asked Mr. Comey to pledge loyalty and end an investigation into a senior aide.

Remember, the media ain’t friendly. The article isn’t being written to inform but to influence and coerce.
Just like the Comey meeting leak, there may be a shred of truth, like the article indicates there was apparently a sarcastic comment about wearing a wire, but the whole point of feeding this information to the media was to get some sort of desired reaction. At a minimum, it gives another data point to the anti-trumpers that Trump doesn’t have people close to him that he can trust. That gives the deep state and never Trumpers encouragement to hold on just a little bit more.
The article if true says volumes about Rosenstein.

All in due time my FRiend! Trump needs to have a successful midterm election. NOTHING is as important as coming out of that election still in control of both Houses of Congress! Trump doesn’t look at the floor when he’s taking a leak! I am quite certain he has everything mapped out for what he’s going to do after the election. And if I were any of the “key players” at the DOJ and FBI, I’d not be spending future earnings right now.

I think that’s what they want to motivate the democrats to vote and give them a narrative that Trump is covering up his collusion tracks.
