WASHINGTON (AP) Abandoning his previous restraint, President Donald Trump challenged by name the woman accusing his Supreme Court nominee of sexual assault on Friday, declaring that if the alleged attack was so terrible she would have reported it to law enforcement.
Trumps change in tone and apparent shift in tactics came as Christine Blasey Fords lawyers negotiate with the Senate Judiciary Committee on the terms for her possible testimony next week in a dramatic showdown over her accusation that threatens Judge Brett Kavanaughs confirmation.
Trump tweeted: I have no doubt that, if the attack on Dr. Ford was as bad as she says, charges would have been immediately filed with local Law Enforcement Authorities by either her or her loving parents. I ask that she bring those filings forward so that we can learn date, time, and place!
The president previously had avoided naming Ford or plainly casting doubt on her account. Ford alleges Kavanaugh sexually assaulted her more than 30 years ago when they were teenagers. Kavanaugh has denied the allegation.

They are a bit like fainting goats, aren’t they?
Pity. (sarcasm inserted here)
She is not a “victim.” She is dredging the mud pile of the me too movement to find a golden ticket for a million or more book contract.
No sensible person would make such a fool of herself as to claim it happened but she doesn’t know when, where, or how...or even the year.
A lot of sympathy is gleaned from blind as a bat followers who believe any scumbag claim regardless of how disgusting it may be.
Not enough people are calling her out. They are too afraid of the idiotic female Nazis.
I never wrote she was a victim. She is being perceived as one by the press and those who believe every word out of the mouth of the MSM.
You said Trump had made her a victim with his “gaffe.” I don’t think Trump made her a victim and he certainly doesn’t need a politician to speak for him.
Trump’s gaffe put the focus on her and her claims of being a victim. It is about perception. The noise machine could give a tinker’s dam for the truth.
Obviously you are one of those that think President Trump needs some politician style “keepers.” I think he appeals to his base because he ISN’T one of them. He is America’s last chance!
I hope he can accomplish what he has set out to do.
No, I don’t think so.
The poll was conducted last weekend, when people thought there was a 'there,' there.
Upon reflection (and learning how thin it is) the trend will go the other way...and probably has.
And what's the particulars of the poll? How many, % of dems, etc?
No serious person would accept this at face value.
(What would W do?)
But say for the sake of argument that the poll is dead on accurate. So what? This is not an election or a popularity contest. All that Kavanaugh needs is a 51% approval rating in the Senate. Polls of the electorate are meaningless.
Seriously? (although sometimes I wonder about some of my fellow posters..)
I think that except for an accident of birth she would be pushing a shopping cart filled with worldly possessions and recycling along the sidewalk.
Exactly so. Nobody expects him to sound like a professional politician; they expect him to be blunt. He gets a lot of grace for that reason alone.
I worry about Flake, he's a loose cannon.
Flake, Collins, Murkowski, and Corker would be my concerns. On the other hand, if Flake and Corker vote against Kavanaugh then that could be a boost to McSally and Blackburn, who can say that they will vote for Trump's nominees.
Trump really needs to let her hang herself with her own rope.
She’s managed to make the wrong moves so far & if they can whine that he’s bullying her - it’s only going to help her cause.
You mean Wonder Woman?
