F-35 Lightning II etc.

It happens. The P-47 was the Thunderbolt and the A-10 in the Thunderbolt II.

I’ve kinda wondered that myself. I guess Texan “II” is the distinction but still...

Does anyone have any idea why they would give it the same name as the WW2 plane? (I am asking sincerely, not looking for trouble! LOL) They have done it with the T-6, A-10, C-17 and F-35. Nostalgia maybe. I dont really know why.
