Trump: ‘I Don’t Have An Attorney General’
The Hill ^ | September 18, 2018.

Posted on 09/19/2018 6:01:44 AM PDT by Helicondelta

President Trump in an Oval Office interview with Hill.TV launched one of his most ferocious broadsides to date against Jeff Sessions, suggesting the attorney general was essentially AWOL and performing badly on a variety of issues,

“I don’t have an Attorney General. It’s very sad,” Trump told Hill.TV in an extensive and free-wheeling interview Tuesday from the Oval Office.

The president has long excoriated Sessions for his March2017 decision to recuse himself from the Russia collusion investigation. But on Tuesday he suggested he is frustrated by Sessions' performance on far more than that.

“I’m not happy at the border, I’m not happy with numerous things, not just this,” he said.

“He gets in and probably because of the experience that he had going through the nominating when somebody asked him the first question about Hillary Clinton or something he said ‘I recuse myself, I recuse myself,’" Trump said.

“And now it turned out he didn’t have to recuse himself. Actually, the FBI reported shortly thereafter any reason for him to recuse himself. And it’s very sad what happened.”

The FBI in an early 2017 email to a Sessions aide, made public last December, concluded that Sessions did not need to reveal contacts with foreign government officials that were made in the course of his work as a senator.

Some of my troops liked the confusion of not having an Alpha dog running the show. The Show doesnt run run long without one and they were always sorely disappointed after I told them to get their $hit in one sock or that the the Chief would come down and conduct some additional training. They always seemed pissed when I showed up right after they thought they had finished doing a less than sufficient job and had to to do it all over again.

‘The new replacement can fire Rosenstein! Problem solved!’

It’s all in the timing.

If Trump abruptly fires Sessions, Rosenstein is acting AG. And he could stir up serious trouble even if it only lasts for one hour. Imagine him as acting AG data-mining the FBI data base with a hand-picked team.

We need to fire Rosenstein first. And before that happens, Trump needs to be confident that people won’t accuse him of trying to block this ‘investigation’. So before you fire Rosenstein, you need to be sure that he’s exposed as much as possible.

Declassification of papers is the first step.

Further, we need to see how the mid-terms are resolved. The senate will be reshuffled. The stronger Trump is post-election, the better man he can get confirmed. Otherwise we get a lukewarm and risky ‘compromise’ nominee.

It’s all in the timing.

It’s all in the timing. Midterms will change the senate.

Many factors.

He might consider the timing of a recess appointment. He could blindside a vacationing senate with a real dragon if it’s done at the right time. That would, however, make them contrary in the long run.

In fact, a lame duck senate is sometimes bolder than a new one. I hope it doesn’t come to that, and I doubt it will, but you never know.

As bad as Sessions is, we could do a lot worse with his replacement with our current senate. Trump’s first three nominees could be shot down. Then he ends up with someone who the democrats and RINOs accept.

Trump’s mistake was not appointing Sessions. It was in not asking for his resignation immediately after Sessions’ resignation

I agree. He should have sent him packing the next morning.

I think all this bemoaning is just a foreshadowing of events on the morning after the mid-terms elections. Heads will roll.

Yo, Donald, what ever happened with saying, “You’re fired!”

“With all due respect, Mr. President, you picked him.”

He certainly did, and who could blame him. Sessions was the first prominent Republican to endorse him. While a Senator he was one of the best representative of conservative ideals. When he was appointed AG, something happened, the bastard turned on a dime. Apparently, the DOJ or FBI have something on him, while they control him like a puppy on a leash.

it seems IF the DOJ releases the unredacted documents and IF they show clearly criminality of certain DOJ/fibbers including RR, then RR can be fired and a temporary assistant attorney general can be named, more to the liking of our Prez....

sessions does stick in my craw (is there such a thing, lol)...

I hope there is a plan, we should all hope there is a plan..

May God bless our president and all true patriots.

I believe that the CINC can name a temporary replacement for Jeff but it would have to be someone already in the system and not needing a senate clearence. I think there is someone in the wings..

Trump has not been able to make recess appointments because the Senate is never really in recess, doing these bogus Pro Forma sessions where one guy shows up, gavels them into session and reads last night’s baseball scores.

Perhaps this Ford nonsense from the Democrats has FINALLY PO-ed Mitch to the point that he’ll gavel the Senate out of session and let Trump work his will.

“Strange as it sounds, he could do a lot to help a post-AG Sessions. All of this griping would pale if Trump helped him out somehow in the future.”

I agree. Trump awards loyalty, and has no interest in further humilliating Sessions, I think. (For Trump, he is actually holding back a lot, no doubt, about how he feels). Maybe just replace him with Pompeo, move him into a make-work new position, “Special Advisor to The President,” or something. “Special Advisor to The Sentate”

Good post.

And I'll give Trump credit for having the patience to play the long game as a response to Jeff Sessions' recusal.

Really?

Why should Trump's criticisms of Sessions "better be an act"?

I read a post on this forum that the turtle has to put the senate in recess at the end of this congress. That’s sometime in December.

Sessions deserves nothing. As far as loyalty goes are you suggesting that Sessions has been loyal? I hope Trump fires him in a most humiliating way.

Just to sort out any confusion in my statement...

I’m talking about the President doing his job.

Definitely not Sessions. Who should hang his head in disgrace. Unless there is some real backroom stuff going on, that no one knows about, how he looks at himself in the morning is beyond me.
