I go to all this trouble not because I agree with Jonah Goldberg but because I am fascinated by the various concepts of "left" and "right," and how they differ from place to place. Both "left" and "right" seem to have their own ideological spectra reaching from atomistic individualism to holistic collectivism. And as Goldberg points out, what is on the "right" in one time or place may be on the "left" at another.
I also call attention to the fact that his citation of Justus Moser shows how the so-called "palaeo" right in its rejection of universals is itself a form of relativism.
All human systems are flawed. Why don't we all just agree that all mankind must be governed by the laws of G-d?

“socialism is the name of our desire.”
The definition is in economics:
In capitalism, economic production and distribution is private.
In communism, it’s the state.
In socialism, production is private, but distribution is state.
We have a mix. The progressive income tax brackets are a means of state controlled “distribution”, for example.
You are thinking that your version of the "laws of God" is universal. It may not be. It also may be very much a "human system," not so different from other human systems.
The system that breaks up society into individuals by letting them compete freely in a rule-bound marketplace creates a chasm that must be refilled, primarily by the state. This is what binds social-ism and socialism, and why both must be resisted.
Contradiction? The "chasm ... must be refilled," but attempts to refill it "must be opposed."
Socialism, which is the daughter of “democracy” and “mob rule”, is one of the end results of imposing command and control on what is essentially anarchy, that is, no functioning government at all.
Nationalist socialism, or its contraction in German, Nazi, is one of the more extreme forms of command and control, exceeded only by a borderless and globalist version known as Communism. Both are much more alike than dissimilar, and the end result is the same - ALL subjects of either order are reduced to cowering peasants, subject to the whim of whatever scheme the elites consider the most important priority at the moment, be it overrunning an adjacent country, or extracting minerals from deep mines under slave conditions. Neither system rewards individual initiative, and in fact punishes it rather severely. Conformity to the demands of the top elite results in relatively rapid promotion, but only up to a point - at which time the quickly-rising star is found to be an “enemy of the people” and is summarily executed. Every subject, like Winston and Julia in “1984”, is scrutinized from time to time, and the “non-conforming” individuals are taken away and broken, by exposing them to their greatest personal fears. Or sometimes just a bullet in the base of the skull.
“Socialism” is simply a handy excuse to enslave other people.
Shut up, they explain.
He must attempt to talk to the same folks that I attempt to.
The Constitution as it was originally written plus the Bill of Rights would be a good start minus the general welfare clause , one of Hamilton’s innocuous sounding scams, and the income tax and direct election of senators.
Very good post.
RE: “Why don’t we all just agree that all mankind must be governed by the laws of G-d?”
Question though?
Exactly who’s God do “we” determine we’ll be governed under?
Roman Catholic?
Liberal Methodist?
New Religion Gimmicky Mormons, Jehovah Witnesses, Seventh Day Adventists?
Ultra-Orthodox, Orthodox, Conservative, Reform Jews?
Buddhist?
Islam’s Allah?
We lost our collective sense of morality Forever.
Socialism is regretablly the next phase for a formerly freedom-loving law-abiding atomized society in ruin.
Be prepared for crisis reset going according to TPTB plan.
My dream is to relegate the word “socialism” to the same way we treat the “n-word.” In the future, I’d like to call it only, “the s-word.”
To paraphrase Karl himself; Marxism is the opiate of the masses of scum who are so stupid as to destroy Christianity and Western Civilization.
Yeah, nobody knows what socialism is but it’s the great hope. People who espouse it don’t know — Cortez are these EYES that come rolling around like overgrown marbles making clicking sounds as they bump into each other and she says trust me, trust my eyes and glamour, trust my expensive clothes that you’ll have too. And the guy with the Che T shirt says, “Yeah, maybe I’ll get laid.” But Goldberg will write and write like a therapy session and he can’t even see beyond his Trump hating nose. It’s too confusing for him what’s right in front of him. If he can’t figure Trump out forget socialism.
The best bet is that socialism is cool and for millennials because they don’t want work to negatively affect their creativity. Life is being glamours on Facebook like Ms. Rolling EYES.
So don’t make sense of any of it because there is no sense to be made...
Force is incompatible with circumstantial freedom of self-realization, and political freedom. It takes force to establish a state monopoly that controls private ownership of the means of production, universal wage and price controls, central planning of the economy, socialist quota system, exploitation and powerlessness of the masses, oppression of the masses, forced labor, inequitable distribution of wealth and concentration of wealth in the hands of a very few leaders, aristocratic privilege and elitist court society for leaders and their favorites, terror, and mass death.
Both Nobel Luateate economists F,A.Hayek and Milton Friedman recognized that socialism inevitably leads to a loss of individual liberty and can quickly evolve into a totalitarian state.
