It is remarkable how often people here post without understanding what they are talking about.
Collins is suggesting that the lawyer of the JUDGE be questioned. She did not ask that the lawyer for the PERFESSOR be questioned.
I think she is trying to avoid the circus of every committee member making a long speech before asking a party-/self-serving question that may or may not be pertinent to the accusation.
I’m no fan of Collins, but how many of the committee members are experienced in this sort of questioning? One other consideration, all of the Republicans are men. Four of the Democrats are women. Who’s going to win the don’t-look-like-a-bully contest?
Imagery is part of the process, sadly. The Republicans need to hire the sharpest female lawyer available, one who won’t be afraid to ask the questions the Republican males would have to tiptoe around. Remember how the Monica Lewinsky questioning went? Senators I thought would get the job done properly were all sweetness and light around the young female intern. That must not happen this time.
