Hurricane Florence is moving relentlessly toward the Southeastern U.S. It's a large, powerful cyclone that will likely bring storm surge and high winds to coastal communities.
But climate scientists say one of the biggest threats posed by Florence is rain.
"Freshwater flooding poses the greatest risk to life," explains James Kossin, an atmospheric scientist for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.
Slow-moving storms are getting more common. A study published earlier this year by Kossin found that tropical cyclones around the world have slowed down 10 percent in the past 70 years.
Kevin Trenberth of the National Center for Atmospheric Research in Boulder, Colo., says global warming also affects the size and intensity of storms like Florence.
"We have global warming, and so this actually makes these storms bigger and more intense," he explains. Humans burn fossil fuels in our cars, our power plants and our airplanes, all of which release greenhouse gases that trap heat. Warmer oceans, especially, provide fuel for hurricanes in the form of evaporating moisture.

Oh please, I just had a headache-inducing water cooler argument with a colleague over this.
These people politicize everything like clockwork.
Check out the absolutely classless left-wing responses that Trump’s hurricane warning tweets are being spammed with. They spam every single Tweet he makes like this and it is almost certainly encouraged by Twitter because they never take any action against the political spammers and it’s beyond obvious that that is exactly what they are doing.
They probably wrote this story years ago and have just been waiting for a decent storm so that they could run it. They waited. And waited. And waited. And — finally! — in 2018 a storm occurred that “justified” their alarmism.
Uh-huh. That why there is snow on the Savannah?
Interestingly enough, it also drives smaller, drier storms.
Imagine that. It does it all!

Heh!
They have as much credibility as ManBearPig Gore.
So...that’s why the U.S. had it’s first hurricane landfall in 11 years, just last year?
Hurricane activity decreased for like the last 15 years. They totally destroy their “science” narrative when they attribute individual weather events to GW. Otherwise they’d acknowledge more than a decade of less hurricanes and what that must mean to their silly theories.
Does anyone have any hard proof of all the “climate change” claims that are made daily? I don’t mean some doctored, theory-validating graph or study, I mean real, scientific proof.
If not, all these statements like “climate changes drives bigger, wetter storms” are meaningless.
Florence = Trump’s fault
Because CO2

The big problem we have with hurricanes is that tens of millions of people have moved to the southeast coast over the past three decades. The infrastructure is not prepared to deal with that, nor is the mentality of the new residents.
It’s not that climate change is making hurricanes more sever than they’ve ever been.
Man Made Global Warming is Bullsh!t.
I have yet to see of one as damaging as the 1900 Galveston Texas hurricane, much less more so because of glo-bull warming...
Funny how the Gaia worshiping ecosocialist watermelons forget all about the distinction between climate and weather whenever its convenient for them.
Democrats are evil.
What would we do, if we didn’t have climate change to blame for everything bad that happens? (/sarc)
