Yup. The usual response.

Spin, spin, spin, spin, obfuscate and spin.

They just need a little more time to get their story right.

The initial hope was that the media would attack Vigano and the story would simply go away. The first part of that happened but the second really didn’t. The new “defense” has been floated in the recent Tornielli column. They’re saying that B16’s penalties on McC were informal and unenforced. Francis didn’t lift anything because there was nothing to lift. All of McC’s offenses were in the distant past so who can blame Francis for not reopening thw whole thing? And as soon as he heard about the new allegations, he took swift and decisive action. It’s a BS defense buy looks like they’re going to go with it.

“In a statement, Francis’ nine cardinal advisers expressed their “full solidarity” with the pope over the scandal,”

I think I see the problem.

Delay...Nit Pic details...obfuscate...then, lie.

Drag it out, drain the energy of your opponent.

It’s the Jesuit way.

In a statement, Francis' nine cardinal advisers expressed their "full solidarity" with the pope over the scandal, which has thrown his papacy into crisis.

Six of whom have been named in sexual abuse investigations themselves.

Not much different than any bureaucracy...maintain maximum control, do a lot of fear-mongering and claim to be the only path to redemption, and protect the most corrupt among them....it’s what happens when an organization gets really big and rich and becomes accustomed to having a lot of sway over its membership.....it stops preaching Jesus, gets into a number of varying liberal social causes, and ramps up the preaching about itself.

The ONLY acceptable “clarification” is :

“Yes we did and we are in the process of structuring a series of resignations to restore the Church.”
