Brown, who has positioned California as a global leader in the effort to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, approved the measure as he prepares to host a summit in San Francisco of climate change leaders from around the world later this week.
The renewable energy measure would require California's utilities to generate 60 percent of their energy come from wind, solar and other specific renewable sources by 2030. That's 10 percent higher than the current mandate.
The goal would then be to use only carbon-free sources to generate electricity by 2045. It's merely a goal, with no mandate or penalty for falling short.

California (ratepayers) will buy up the West’s hydropower and other Westerners (including Las Vegas and Phoenix refugees forced out of California) will get their electricity via natural gas.
Have you heard of common sense?
Some things are just obvious to any sane person.
This whole “clean energy “ business was invented by some, who want to destroy the US, by destroying its energy supply.
See, I didn't know that. THAT will definitely work.
Why only 60%?

Looks like people don't know much about California weather, lots of predictable sunshine especially in the deserts. Data: https://www.eia.gov/state/?sid=CA There are many caveats though, the main one is that they still need direct heating and transportation fuels that will be more difficult to do with alternatives. Not enough energy density compared to fossil.
He should hire the homeless at $15 an hour plus bennies to go out and cut deadfall if the forests for fire wood to be hauled into the homeless encampments to help them through the winter.
That would reduce the fuel load in the forests and reduce the forest fires. Plus give the homeless heat and something to cook with.
This is a joke. An expensive joke, but a joke none the less. Power gets pumped into the grid from Coal, LNG, Hydro, Wind, Solar,..... The electrons don’t know where they come from. There is X percentage of each, so CA can SAY they are only buying the clean energy and then smugly point at other states and say “see, they buy dirty energy”. But the fact is that CA uses just as much dirty or clean energy as everyone else. But hey, they feel good and that is all that matters.
“Where will the other 18 hours of power come from?”
They pull there power from the grid. The grid is fed from many sources, coal, hydro, nuke, LNG, wind, solar. It all is combined. There is no way they can actually get X% of clean energy unless they separate from the grid. So they can say they are buying clean energy, but it is just saying they will pay extra to say they are only buying the clean percentage. Just feel good BS, which is perfect for CA. Suckers.
Can anybody explain why this thread seems to be indicating that California hasnt reached its solar energy goals yet, while the thread below seems to be indicating that California has more solar energy than it knows what to do with?
"In fact, the California is generating so much solar energy that it is resorting to paying other states to take the excess electricity in order to prevent overloading power lines.California is embarrassing the rest of the country with the amount of solar energy it's producing, 22 June 17.
When the sun goes down or clouds roll in, or the wind stops blowing then CA has to buy the dirty oldd grid electrons.
They always buy the dirty electrons. They buy a lot from the Northwest. Now the northwest has about 30% hydro, plus LNG, Coal, Wind, Nuke. But a chunk is “dirty”. The CA proclamation is just BS PC garbage. We as a nation are trying to move to cleaner energy, but what CA did does nothing to speed that process.
Building the future?
Snort.
More like following NYS down the same ‘Rat hole.
Wealth is, at its most fundamental level, measured by how much energy you can command. The more energy you have access to the richer you are, individually, as a business, as a society.
This effort, by a toxic union of billionaire rentseekers and totalitarian marxists, to make energy less available, less reliable, and more expensive is at a level of societal insanity comparable to that which overwhelmed the Xhosa in 1856 when the prophetess of doom, Nongqawuse, convinced them that salvation lay in destroying all their cattle and crops. It did not turn out well for them then. It will not turn out well now.
Turning our backs on cheap, plentiful energy from any source is just as bad a move.
Gov. Jerry Brownout
Smart move. It’s not like they need air-conditioning or anything.
Do you have a pie chart showing the percentage of power supplied by that set of resources? That would be a more useful way to show the current CA dependence on fossil fuels.
Just call me ‘Jerry Brownout.
