I saw that exchange last night and it was indeed odd and Kavanaugh was visibly thrown for a loop. I thought his response was credible. He basically said he’s discussed the case with other judges and that if the Senator could provide a name he could confirm or deny as he didn’t know everyone who worked at that law firm. She would not give out a name (in other words, did you discuss this case with ‘x’).
When she asked that question, she also made comments such as, be very specific and also said something to the effect of this is a very specific question. She kept pressing him on different subjects and it was odd I thought when she said things like you’re not going to answer this so we’ll move on.
I think the game plan there was to possibly force him to recuse himself if any Mueller investigation items ever went to the Supreme Court for a ruling (such as forcing the President to go under oath at a grand jury).

After Sessions’ recusal on... well... everything, I cringe when I hear that word any more.

She has nothing.....If she had something it should be a direct question....Have you ever advised the President regarding the Mueller witch hunt?
In other words, she's running her own little witch hunt.
RIGHT.....the whole idea is to make it so Kavanaugh must recuse himself on X Y and Z and Mueller-Russia when he is on the Supreme Court.
The good part is though Kavanaugh was blindsided he will be ready today and any day this BS is brought up again.
Why should he?
Neither Andrew Wesissman (for his contacts with Bruce Ohr before the Mueller investigation), nor Rod Rosenstein ( for signing FISA warrants based on fake dossiers from Hilary campaign), have excused themselves.
Yes OTH, this was my reaction as well. Her question came out of left field, Coach K was on the defensive, and she persisted as a prosecutor with all the goods on her target.
Because she gave no specifics to K, it was extremely unfair. and an inference that Kavanaugh was somehow part of the Russia conspiracy (i.e. the Russia-linked judged hand-picked to clear Trump). Her questioning had been set up all day by other Dems asking K about when he was added to the Trump lists of potential SCOtUS nominees.
Like you, I thought this was another Dem stunt to potentially force his recusal down the road.
With Trump making progress in the Black electorate, the Dems are likely planning to run Harris or Booker in 2020...very transparent forum (Coach K hearings) to raise their profiles. Media will likely run with the Harris prosecution tape today!
