McCain ends 81-year journey with burial at Naval Academy

John McCain is being laid to rest at the U.S. Naval Academy after a five-day procession that served as a final call to arms for a nation he warned could lose its civility and sense of shared purpose.

The private ceremony in Annapolis, Maryland, was as carefully planned as the rest of McCain's farewell tour, which began in Arizona after he died Aug. 25 from brain cancer and stretched to Washington.

And I am old enough to remember JFK’s funeral. He was shot on Friday, body flown to DC that evening. Saturday & Sunday, lie in state at the Capitol, funeral/burial on Monday. There was wall-to-wall coverage on virtually every over-the-air TV station (all we had back then).

I’d agree. This is absurd. Fat Teddy didn’t even get nearly this much attention, despite being the darling of Dems.

But what is most absurd is the lowering of the Flag. For a week.

McCain's funeral was at best an eight day affair. He died on 8/25 and was finally buried on 9/1, 8 days after he died-a while but rather quick when compared to just recently deceased ...Aretha.

Ms. Franklin breathed her last on 8/16 and her funeral show ended on 8/31, 16 days later. A full 8 days beyond the pomp accorded McCain.
