Meghan McCain on Saturday presented the legacy of her father, John McCain, as a sharp contrast to the conduct of President Donald Trump, with whom the late senator bitterly feuded.
Although McCain didn't mention the President by name -- and he was not present at the service, in accordance with the late senator's wishes -- she made several unmistakable and pointed references throughout her emotional remarks.
"We gather here to mourn the passing of American greatness, the real thing, not cheap rhetoric from men who will never come near the sacrifice he gave so willingly, nor the opportunistic appropriation of those who live lives of comfort and privilege while he suffered and served," McCain told the crowd of mourners at Washington National Cathedral, which included family, friends, former presidents, military officials and foreign leaders.
"The America of John McCain has no need to be made great again, because America was always great," she said, a not-so-veiled reference to Trump's 2016 campaign slogan. The line was received with loud and sustained applause in the cathedral.

Wellstone rises!
I am so sick of what is the secret password to enter cool American society?
Hate trump
Youre in.
Cry me a river May-Gan.
Incidentally, I wonder if your Dad has met some of the true patriots who died on the USS Forrestal. I’m sure they have plenty to say...
Meghan trying to cover up that her father was really just a loser. Trump is always a winner, trail blazer with serious gonads. Meghan’s dad was driven by pettiness, bitterness, and total narcissistic frustration that he wasn’t really liked. The trump bashing in the end is just smoke screen for the lack of her dad’s popularity and jealousy. Bitter and petty. How fitting for a McCain funeral. He died as he lived.
Thanks for the laugh!!!
WOW, CNN and every other leftist news outlet couldn’t say enough bad things about McCain in 2008-9 and now all of a sudden he is their hero?
The hypocrisy is amazing!!
It’s too bad this whole trailer trash family didn’t leave the building with him. Seriously, what a bunch of jealous, classless dirtbags.
Washington loves him. A lot of people showed up for the funeral. If they got invitations beforehand.
>>”We gather here to mourn the passing of American greatness, the real thing, not cheap rhetoric from men who will never come near the sacrifice he gave so willingly, nor the opportunistic appropriation of those who live lives of comfort and privilege while he suffered and served,”
A lot of Trump supporters sacrificed a hell of lot more than this pampered little poodle of a girl.
Sometimes I wish I could put ''BULLCRAP!!" across every webpage this is written on like a stamp saying REJECT or LIE.
I’m assuming petulant Johnny left this in his list of demands as well.
What pray tell would be McCain’s legacy?
Oh yes, Libya still in chaos.
Entanglement in Syria.
The loss of a good ally in Egypt.
The loss of our Ambassador and his staff in Benghazi.
Closer top level dealings with the Muslim Brotherhood, al Qaeda, and ISIS players?
More respect for the leading Leftists in our nation, because he befriended them and trashed our best leaders.
Would that also be a tarnished rep for the Tea Party people, Sarah Palin, and others? Why sure.
Would it also involve helping Americans see Congress in a terrible light?
And now a man who some think was a traitor, will be interned at a position of high respect, thoroughly confusing citizens who have no idea the true disgusting nature of this man, what with the full court press to ensconce him in the figurative hall of the heroes of this nation.
Gosh, the legacy stuff just keeps on coming...
His legacy will also be to haunt the hallowed grounds of Conservatism for decades or more into the future, as the media declares him to have been one of us, thus denigrating everything we actually stand for, which he didn’t.
Why would anyone go on about such things at a funeral? It’s crazy creepy.
No one cares.
McCain was the quintessential career politician and a small-time political hack.
The kind of person Americans rightly despise.
As for my feelings, Im glad hes gone.
Pathetic.
‘”The America of John McCain has no need to be made great again, because America was always great,”
That sounds like Obama and Andrew Cuomo. The New Normal thing and America was never that Great.’
Indeed. Didn’t Cuomo tell her about that? One needs a flowchart to try to understand the liberal narrative.
McStains for the whole family... great work John.
His record is that of failure, recklessness, anger, and bitterness.
To suggest otherwise is a lie.
As an example, I submit McCain-Feingold Act. An act of bitterness on anyone who would criticize/challenge McAmnesty 90 days before he stood for election.
