Linda needs a “father figure “. What was the relationship he had with his own father?

I remember something Lindsey said about raising his younger sister so he didn’t have time for relationships and hadn’t married.

Sounds like neither of his parents were in the “picture.”

Lindsey Olin Graham was born in Central, South Carolina, where his parents, Millie and Florence James “F.J.” Graham, ran a restaurant-bar-pool hall-liquor store, the “Sanitary Cafe”.[19] After graduating from D. W. Daniel High School, Graham became the first member of his family to attend college, and joined the Reserve Officers’ Training Corps. When he was 21, his mother died of Hodgkin’s lymphoma aged 52, and his father died 15 months later of a heart attack, aged 69.[19] Because his then-13-year-old sister was left orphaned, the service allowed Graham to attend University of South Carolina in Columbia so he could be near home and care for his sister, whom he adopted.

Graham’s memoir blunt about his upbringing
He shares stories of tough times and failed relationships.

Lindsey Graham grew up in the back room of a South Carolina bar, sharing a bathroom with patrons who worked down the street at a nearby mill plant. He took baths with water heated up on the stove.

At the age of 12, he was working at the downstairs pool hall, racking tables to help with his family’s financial struggles.

Despite his humble origins, Graham speaks highly of his parents and his upbringing, calling the regulars at his family’s bar part of an extended family of sorts.
