Francis redeemed McCarrick and made him a “king maker,” allowing him to chose the horrible recent bishop appointments in the US (such as Tobin and Cupich). The only reason he has now shuffled him out of sight is that there has been such a public uproar over the things that have recently come to light involving McCarrick that it was becoming politically impossible for Francis to defend him any more.

No, Francis is going to be just fine, don’t worry about it. Now if more bishops, such as this Bishop of Tyler, Texas (a place I’d never even heard of!), would get out there and start clamoring for an investigation or for acceptance of responsibility, something might happen and Francis might have to come clean and resign. Hopefully, this brave bishop is just the first.
