Not for the Roman Catholic....the RCC only dogmatically approved their canon at Trent in the 1500s. Prior to that there was no dogmatically approved canon for Rome.
Plus, your argument forgets the OT was around for a pretty good while before Rome showed up on the scene.
Also, since there was no official canon before Trent, which came AFTER Luther, there can be no legitimate accusations of Luther throwing books out of the Bible since the RCC had not officially determined the canon.
Besides, if you look at Luther’s Bible, you’ll see that it DID contain the apocrypha.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Luther_Bible
“The Luther Bible (German: Lutherbibel) is a German language Bible translation from Hebrew and ancient Greek by Martin Luther. The New Testament was first published in 1522 and the complete Bible, containing the Old and New Testaments and Apocrypha, in 1534.”
So the claim that Luther *threw out* books of the Bible that he *didn’t like* is a complete fabrication.
Catholics have been told this time and again here on the FR, but some just seem to steadfastly refuse to believe the facts presented to them. They’d rather hang onto the lies they were told than admit they were wrong and not have something with which to try to smear Luther.
The Catholic encyclopedia itself says that Trent was their first ‘infallible’ canon. After Luther.
Wrong! The "problem" is sin and the disregard the clergy have for their responsibility to be examples of holy living to the flock they shepherd. Apparently, some either are unbelievers and enemies of Christ or they think they will be excused for their iniquity because they have "devoted" their lives to serving the Lord. Which is it you think?
Not having wives and/or children doesn't seem to dampen the sexual lust in some, though. Does it? There's more than "melodrama" right now, it's a scandal and a disaster and has been for hundreds of years in the Roman Catholic church. Don't believe me? Read about St. Peter Damian's Book of Gomorrah (http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-religion/929551/posts)
Yeah, that celibacy thing has worked out really well for them, hasn’t it.
No distractions, eh?
Q
*****************
Luther added the word "alone" (allein in German) to Romans 3:28 controversially so that it read: "So now we hold, that man is justified without the help of the works of the law, alone through faith"[8] The word "alone" does not appear in the Greek texts,[9] but Luther defended his translation by maintaining that the adverb "alone" was required both by idiomatic German and the apostle Paul's intended meaning,[10] and that sola was used in theological tradition before him.
Apologist James Swan lists numerous Catholic sources that also translated Romans 3:28 with the word "alone," or testified to others doing so before Luther.[11] A Bible commentary published in 1864 reports that
[Roman] Catholic translators before the time of Luther had given the same translation. So in the Nuremberg Bible, 1483, "Nur durch den glauben." And the Italian Bibles of Geneva, 1476, and of Venice, 1538, per sola fede. The Fathers also often use the expression, "man is justified by faith alone;"
Let's don't let facts get in the way of Roman Catholic beliefs now.
Since we know that this is NOT a new problem in the Roman Catholic church, do you think that perhaps the reason it is being exposed now is to teach Christians that they cannot depend upon "their" church to save them but that it is only in Jesus Christ that we trust? It's obvious to me (a former RC) that human institutions will ALWAYS be fragile and fail us and that is why the TRUE church of Christ is that Spiritual House St. Peter spoke about and of which all believers are living stones that build it up. My faith is in Jesus, not a church.
This by far is one of the most astonishing things I have ever read on FR. Laying aside the divine inspiration of the scripture for the moment, what you essentially said is that the Catholic Church produces writings that they may or may not even adhere to.
I really hope you don't believe what you have written.
Correction:
the Catholic Church produces writings that they may or may not do not even adhere to.
Other than that, that post *IS* rather astounding. They wrote a book that they don't even follow themselves and then they expect others to follow them based on what?
What they claim is written in the book that they don't follow themselves.
And they appeal to the authority of a book that they authored themselves that they claim makes them the *One True Church* which they claim they authored.
So in the very book they claim credit for, they put in there that Jesus said He would *found* the Catholic church and when questioned about it, they point to the thing they wrote that supports their claim.
See, Jesus says so. we put it in there ourselves.
What a racket.
Avoid misrepresentation.
Kind of makes your head spin doesn't it? :O)
SCRIPTURE DOES NOT CHANGE......Roman Catholic tradition has, does and will change.
Ive wondered if a Second Reformation is underway. Hopefully the message of salvation in Christ, and only Christ, will be heard this time.
I am Catholic because I believe in Jesus Christ, my Lord and my Savior. He did not found two churches, He founded one. I am there. Not going anywhere.
The reason for the seal of confession is simple: if the priest snitches, no one would be going to confession and be cleansed of his sin. So, yes, Jesus wants it.
Thank you for your valuable insight
It is acceptable now.
throw books out, and add books
Nothing was thrown in or out at Trent.
This is off-topic. You have questions about the Bible, find an appropriate thread.
It doesn't have to be my kid. All these pederast priests should be defrocked at a minimum and molesters and rapists jailed for a long time.
