The Florida man who invoked the "stand your ground" self-defense after shooting a black man in a dispute over a parking space was charged Monday with manslaughter, officials said.
Michael Drejka, 47, was arrested Monday morning in the fatal shooting in July of Markeis McGlockton in Clearwater, Florida.

there are many, many similarities between GZ and MD. Why do you think MD shouldn’t be allowed to defend himself or was out of line defending himself? It’s on video that he was surprised with a violent shove (off his feet, through the air). We didn’t see GZ’s attack on video...just asking what you think is different. But please, base it on actual facts and not what you’ve read in the (very slanted) media.
Its a pity
In the old days it woulda been different
This might have been a 1000er
Im hearing only one shot fired. Where are you getting this second shot stuff? I also reviewed the sheriffs lengthy news conference. The sheriff stated very clearly we wouldnt be here if M would not have assaulted Drejka to begin with. The sheriff is also a lawyer. Good luck when the defense calls him to the stand. Its going to be an uphill battle to say the least for the prosecution to prove Drejka s arrest free past forced M to commit assault.
I haven’t heard any audio. Just read that two shots were fired.
Since he’s charged with manslaughter the State has to prove that Drejka had prior intent and means of killing someone. I.e. present a preponderance of evidence of Drejka’s prior use of his firearm in confrontations of his own creation. That will establish he willfully created and promoted confrontations which could reasonably be presumed would lead to the death of another. AKA manslaughter.
Self defense would not come into play if the weapon was maintained for an offensive purpose. His prior behavior points that way. So he wasn’t defending himself as much as he was using the FL self-defense law simply as the pretext for shooting someone consistent with his previous offensive intent with the firearm.
Awww, is that you trying to find your brains?
It's funny watching idiots try to explain themselves... each explanation just reinforces their idiocy and why everyone thought they were idiots in the first place.
We have it from the shooter himself IN HIS OWN WORDS, that he wanted to off someone, over *the same parking spot*. We also know that the shooter was leaving the scene, but came back to *the same parking spot*
Despite the info, a few MORONS (one a pathological moron who probably shouldn't be armed) still take up for the POS.

If society believes in self defense we must protect the non aggressor otherwise there is no self defense. Like the sheriff said if M did not commit assault he would not be dead that is a fact and it's the reason no charges should have ever been brought. Innocent people will die and innocent people will go to prison because of the DA caving to BLM and the left.
I’m in complete agreement. There is nothing else to be determined about this incident BUT the shove. Not the parking space not the histories of the 2 people, not the girlfriend, nothing. And when assessing the shove, it’s clear that MD had the right to fear for his life and protect himself.
there was only one shot
This is a political prosecution and is sure to fail. The people of Florida passed SYG to prevent prosecutions like this. It can be argued forever if the attack would have stopped without shooting but it can't be argued who was the aggressor that escalated a verbal confrontation to a violent and ultimately deadly attack.
Please, give me more time from your life that you will never get back. Every second makes my collection all the more grand.
Umm, I’m pretty sure the ‘morons’ on this thread are more interested in defending FL’s self defense law than Drejka.
Prior to the charge of manslaughter that was the only issue. All arguments against Derjka at the time were in reality arguments against self-defense. Thankfully, the State believes there is enough evidence to charge him with manslaughter. With manslaughter a reasonable discussion can bring in all extraneous issues such as prior actions, intent, disposition etc. without calling into question the legitimacy of self defense.
“Well good job to the state of Florida for allowing this DA to put everyone again at risk of prosecution if they are forced to defend themselves.”
I hope you’re over reacting. Manslaughter and FL’s self-defense law are pretty exclusive of each other. The State will have to prove a prior and consistent intent to murder and the defense will only want the self-defense shooting evidence to be considered.
IMO if all the evidence is considered he’s convicted. If only the shooting video he walks.
And I don’t think this imperils FL’s self-defense statute if all the evidence is considered. That should actually raise the bar where self-defense is actually manslaughter. I.e., did a person threaten to ‘blow another person’s head off’ before, did they brandish their weapon in traffic, were they aggressive and confrontational, etc.
Should be a good trial.
And if this gets entered into Drekja’s trial it will demonstrate prior intent and his lawyer will tell him to cut the best deal that he can.
This case was clearly self defense yet this man is facing up to 30 years in prison. So that fact pretty much negates the protection of the states SYG law. This is what happens when we let politics get involved. The DA is playing to the BLM protest crowd and wont give a damn when the next thug beats someone to death because they were afraid to defend themselves.
prosecutors hate syg because it deies them easy wins
personal injury lawyers hate it because it denies them lawsuits
gun grabbers hate syg because they want de facto repeal by oppressive litigation
Hmmmmmmmmm?
It was thoughtful of Drejka the Poisonous Toad to call up the boss of the septic tank truck guy and repeat his threat to kill the guy over the parking space, since that was one of the incidents that wasn't documented by police involvement...
When they get the officers from the previous incidents up on the stand, recounting how Drejka lied like a rug when they stopped him, it's gonna leave a mark...
