And if Rahm Emanuel cannot bring himself to address the long-term source of Chicagos troubles, perhaps he can do something about the short-term ones. If the city is plagued with a cohort of dangerous young men, whats to be done about them? As noted above, the short-term solution is well known but politically fraught: You encourage your police officers to identify and arrest the lawbreakers, and you encourage your prosecutors to bring appropriate charges and seek appropriate sentences. To those who are troubled by the specter of mass incarceration, a question: Given the blood running in the gutters of Chicagos streets last weekend (and most weekends, especially in summer), are there too many people in jail or too few?
But to address this crime wave requires a police force that is fully staffed, suitably equipped, and well led, none of which describes the Chicago Police Department in its current state. Incredibly, Rahm Emanuel acquiesced to allowing the ACLU and the socialist front group Black Lives Matter to participate in the crafting of a consent decree soon to take effect in Chicago, a measure that will divert vast amounts of police manpower and resources from fighting crime to complying with the minutia the decree will demand. The ACLU was already successful in foisting on Chicagos cops the Investigative Stop Report, the two-page form completed on every person detained, however briefly, in the course of a cops work day. If your goal is less police work, just add to the paperwork requirement and soon youll get what you want. The result of all this in Chicago is clear: the citys thugs are less fearful of the consequences for their predations than are the police for the consequences of trying to oppose them. If the cops do what must be done,

I'm glad we have a 50-60 mile wide moat between them and me.
The County got a Federal Grant to prosecute gun crimes Federally. I think it was in 2000.
It wasn’t really designed to specifically lower the murder rate, but to add a big cost to using or firing a gun while committing a crime.
The biggest result was getting those who committed gun crimes, and especially repeat offenders off the streets with penalties up to life in prison for the crimes listed below. Those upper penalties
weren’t available under state laws.
Using, Carrying, or Possessing a Gun in Furtherance of Crime of Violence or Drug Trafficking Crime
5 years (Michigan law is 2 years)
to
Life (Michigan had no life for this)
18 U.S.C. §
924(c)(1)(A)(i)
Brandishing a Gun in Furtherance of Crime of Violence or Drug Trafficking Crime
7 years (Michigan law was less)
to
Life (ditto no state law life)
18 U.S.C. §
924(c)(1)(A)(ii)
Discharging a Gun in Furtherance of Crime of Violence or Drug Trafficking Crime
10 years (usually plea bargained away in Michigan. Would usually offer a plea to underlying felony violent or not. Not much chance of that Federally)
to
Life (not in the state)
18 U.S.C. §
924(c)(1)(A)(iii)
So can white males committing the same crimes as minorities be exempted from law enforcement and prosecution?
Chicago - The City Stuck On Stupid! Re-Elect Rahm. It’s the only way it will get better...cuz he’s a democrap!
How could the Chicago story be more representative of leftist policies. The hometown of obama, mayor rahm, a city with a rich history of Democrat corruption, strict gun control but rampant gang gun violence, and being run by the aclu and blm. All thats left is for them to erect a giant gold statue of soros in the heart of the city.
“In 2016, Chicago (29%) had a murder rate of 28/100,000. The rate for Baltimore (62%) was 51/100,000, and E St Louis (95%) was 100/100,000,”
The horrific rate of black crime on blacks directly corresponds with Lyndon Bains Johnsons’s Great Society. The welfare benefits for unwed mothers made a stable husband no longer necessary and in fact encouraged out of wedlock births. A husband at home decreased welfare benefits. This destroyed black families and also is destroying non black families today.
It is obscene policy.
It goes beyond that; the costs/high taxes of maintaining the welfare reservations suppresses any economic recovery in these areas as well. Newark NJ is trying to lure Amazon to build there, dangling a $2 billion tax incentive, but it won’t work; those tax deals include stipulations that you hire a certain percentage of your workforce within the locality, and Newark has no workforce to offer (too much of even the low-skill, low-cost workforce has fled the city). On top of that is the lack of physical security within the city; high earners won’t live there, and they can’t live in the immediate vicinity because the denizens fan out on raids into those areas daily.
Here in NJ our state police were years ago ordered to “stand down” when intercepting drugs and guns coming from the South; while libs cheered the victory, it IMMEDIATELY resulted in a spike in violent crime from which Newark and the other cities have never recovered. At this point the name of the game is containment; taxpayers in surrounding areas simply pay local police forces to defend their strategic hamlets on the outskirts. Nobody is investing in Newark but the government (read: county, state, and federal taxpayers) outside of its relatively small downtown, which isn’t really residential.
“Let the feral animals kill each other...”
Best reasoning I’ve heard to date. There is no one to blame other than the citizens of Chicago since they made the political cesspool that guides them today. The old saying “You make your bed and lay in it to sleep” certainly applies to the citizens of Chicago. Nothing is going to happen about it for as long as perceived “civil rights” trumps “legal rights”.
Russia.
The real reason for the problems in Chicago is that Piss Poor Parents are not doing the job they are commanded to do and are raising children to be of equal value.
Positive correlation between liberal politics and crime.
