A Sikh man says he was attacked and told to go back to [his] country in an incident that police in California are investigating as a hate crime.
Surjit Malhi, 50, told Sacramentos CBS13 that he was beaten last week by two men, who also allegedly spray-painted his truck with hate symbols, while he was posting campaign signs in support of Rep. Jeff Denham (R-Calif.) in Stanislaus County.
Malhi told the CBS affiliate that the men threw sand in his eyes and brutally beat him in the head, shoulders and neck, while shouting: Go back to your country!
Its very scary, you know, he said, adding that he thought they were going to shoot me.
Malhi told the station that his turban softened the blows and may have saved his life.
Malhi is a well-known member of the community, has raised thousands of dollars for charity and is a politically involved, active supporter of the local Republican Party, according to CBS13.
Im American 100 percent, no doubt, so they say, go back to my country? This is my country, he said. If you are a real American and you love America, you should not do that. That is not the American way.
Sikhs hate muslims more than Freepers do
Quite a history between Sikhs and Muslims.
Thanks markomalley.
With good reason . . . they’ve had more Islamofascist terrorism directed against their community that the average American. If this story appears in the lamestream media at all, watch them try to spin it as Trump’s fault.
In today’s climate, you need to assimilate; don’t give the bad-guys an excuse. Dump the turban in public is my advice.
I should say, one event really sticks out in my mind.
When they dropped some power lines on some they chased into an area with water running through it. Yikes.
Large population in my neck of the woods in MI. Many are brainiacs and yes, the were warriors back in the day. One dad of a classmate of a youngin' I know would replace his traditional head-dress with a Tigers Cap and were his Tigers Jacket with pride for his favorite baseball team. What a great country, an immigrant goes bonkers for Baseball! Many of the young lads can be seen playing cricket and throwing that ball at an un-G-dly speed. We will be fine w/ the Sikh population, it is all good....
How will the Ministry of Propaganda spin this?
Sikh man attacked while posting GOP signs.....
I like the Sikhs...They seem to never get a fair shake over here with the idiots who should educate themselves on the Sikhs and what allies they can be for us.,
While the hoodies do make it sound like they were "Antifa" it could have been random thugs, even 'right wingers, who aren't bright enough to know the difference between Sikh and Muzzie.
bump
Dump the turban in public is my advice........Will you dump your cross necklace?
Racism is OK as long as it’s against non-liberals.
10-1 he was attacked not because he was wearing a turban but because he was putting up signs for a party the two leftist creeps (who when they fight must always be in groups) despise. Why should he remove his turban or his signs? The last time I looked, this is America.
I want Sikhs in my foxhole when the shooting starts.
I work with Sikhs. They like their turbans and their beards other than that really nice people.
I have a beard and a ball cap. Boss doesnt like it but tough.
The Sikhs give me cover.
Sikhs are a wonderful people, and an asset and credit to any community. Most of my Sikh friends don’t have beards or wear turbans, and only cover their heads in their temples (Gurdwaras).
All hail the tolerant left...../s
And take the crosses off your churches while you're at it. And stop your public proselytizing
Something does not smell right about this story.
If this guy was a Leftist, everyone one on this thread would be shouting “BOGUS!”
I'm withholding judgment until I see more verifiable facts.
I will also speculate that very few Sikhs are Republicans.
There are lots of polls on Asian-Indian Americans - they vote 75% to 80% for the Democrat Party - but those polls don't separate Hindus from Sikhs.
