The publisher of the New York Times said Sunday he implored President Donald Trump at a private White House meeting this month to reconsider his broad attacks on journalists, calling the presidents anti-press rhetoric not just divisive but increasingly dangerous.
In a statement, publisher A.G. Sulzberger said he decided to comment publicly after Trump revealed their off-the-record meeting to his more than 53 million Twitter followers on Sunday. Trumps aides had requested that the July 20 meeting not be made public, Sulzberger said.
[snip] Had a very good and interesting meeting at the White House with A.G. Sulzberger, Publisher of the New York Times. Spent much time talking about the vast amounts of Fake News being put out by the media & how that Fake News has morphed into phrase, Enemy of the People. Sad! Trump wrote.
Sulzberger, who succeeded his father as publisher on Jan. 1, said his main purpose for accepting the meeting was to raise concerns about the presidents deeply troubling anti-press rhetoric.

the NYT has been an anti-American, anti-Jewish (yes, I know) and anti-Christian rag from before WW2
Dear Publisher,
clean up your “reporting” and we might even subscribe again.
Otherwise, we are doing just fine getting more honest news (and crossword puzzles and theatre reviews) elsewhere. No problemo.
How bout “you first” and the “media” stop all the anti-Trump hate?
The performance of “Journ-O-Lists” today is beyond disgusting. Even worse when they hide behind the First Amendment under the phony notion they’re a “free press”
That not a mention of hilLIAR’s and OCommie’s et al corruption, the weaponization of “intelligence” and LEO shows exactly what weaklings and cheerleaders they are
According to a May Harvard-Harris poll published by The Hill, 65% of voters believe there is an abundance of fake news, streaming from the national media:
data from the latest Harvard-Harris poll, which was provided exclusively to The Hill, 65 percent of voters believe there is a lot of fake news in the mainstream media. That number includes 80 percent of Republicans, 60 percent of independents and 53 percent of Democrats.
Sultzberger, who is trashing the NYT, apparently still does not understand why the Times is tanking.
Could it be because Sulzberger knows NOT the difference between journalism and propaganda? Is he aware that Trump's attacks are on the corrupt news media, the propagandists with their unrelenting and false attacks on the President?
The NYT and other MSM are all pretending that Trump's attacks are against responsible journalism. They are NOT! Do these people think that what they are spewing out is responsible journalism?
President Trump and millions of Americans are sick and tired of the constant drumbeat of negative news, the focusing on something no one cares about instead of reporting objectively, reporting on news of interest to the people (like the economy, jobs, crime rate, e.g.).
Maybe the NYT can observe and learn what successful news agencies, do -- report and let the reader decide.
Right now the MSM should be criminally liable for the garbage and propaganda they report and claim as "objective" news. They are the enemy of the people.
Are there any competent and responsible journalism schools anywhere in the USA? Or, are all of them infected by the Trump Derangement Syndrome?
What are they going to do when their base of Trump Haters melts away?
How about the MSM reconsider its massive Leftist Bias and nonstop lies?
He asks Trump to be nice to journalists. But all people at the MSM are no journalists...
Most are making stuff up and selling opinions.
Forst time I saw a picture of Sulzberger, looks like an absolute twirp.
Amazing. The NYT and other left-wing media have been on a mission to destroy the President beginning even before he was elected. The President simply fought back, rather than running away with his tail between his legs. What no one on the left suspected is that the President had tapped into a deep and long dormant sense of rage by ordinary people sick of having the agenda set by a group of pampered elite. Having finally realized that the President is winning this battle, the NYT is suing for peace. I hope the President continues to take down those who seek to damage him and our country.
It’s hard to give a person much credit for intelligence or honesty when they tell you that criticizing their newspaper is a threat to democracy. it obviously is no such thing.
The bully never likes it when their target punches back...
not just divisive but increasingly dangerous.
Good. Be afraid.
This is funny. The press is crying “uncle” to President Trump!
They have no idea how to fight a President, who strikes back.
Surrender time!
But Trump needs to keep the heat on, you can’t trust lefties of any stripe.
Pinch feeling the pinch.
The Times is absolutely psychotic on the subject of Trump.
I’m certain President Trump knows precisely how to deal with this as I’m sure he is aware — as are many of us — that any such acquiescence would not be welcomed by the Left as much as it would be seen by the Left as a sign of weakness.
Time Magazine has turned to dung.
Sure, as soon as they stop telling lies and just report the news.
The Old Gray Whore, madam to presstitutes is feeling the heat. She represents New York and New York city which are no longer America.
Publis911 asks The New York Times to reconsider abandoning actual news in favor of becoming a mouthpiece and militant spokesman for the democratics, the GOPe, the nevertrumpers, antifa, tribal politics, criminal illegal aliens, and generally enemies domestic.
Not that it really matters to me, since I do not read the Times directly, most specially if I have to deal with a paywall...
In other words, he’s telling DJT to be like the previous R Presidents and simply “bend over and take it” (like a good little Republican).
We finally have a POTUS that will stand up to these bozos and *their* rhetoric. WTG, Mr. President !!!
