I’m a sheriff. Don’t flood the country with 3D-printed guns. (barf alert)
Washington Post ^ | 26 july 2018 | Paul Penzone

I am not fearful of firearms. I believe the Second Amendment was written with purpose and with sensitivity to generational circumstances. But what I am extremely concerned about is who has access to firearms and the devastation firearms are capable of in the wrong hands.

Imagine a world in which anyone — including terrorists, convicted felons and domestic abusers — has immediate access to untraceable guns. Now imagine that many of these guns are made entirely of plastic or other materials not recognized by traditional metal detectors.

This unmanageable scenario may soon become a reality. In fact, as soon as Aug. 1, anyone with an Internet connection and a 3D printer — readily available in stores and online — will be able to make an untraceable handgun, rifle or assault weapon with just a few clicks. This is because the State Department has decided to allow a private company to post gun blueprints online for anyone to access. This is a reckless and dangerous action that will enable the uncontrolled distribution of downloadable, do-it-yourself firearms.

Any cop who uses the term “assault weapons” is a moonbat gun grabber.

Every machine shop in the country is a potential firearms factory.

Didn't have to read past this "living Constitution" BS to know where the rest of the piece was going.

I had a pop gun in the early sixties that kinda looked like an m-1 carbine. it COULD poke your eye out if filled with dirt.

I’m a cop. I’ll always have legal access to guns. Screw the rest of you, citizens.

Full of 💩. So, guessing he doesn't appreciate law abiding citizens owning weapons then?

Zip guns? Way before computers and 3D printers. What an idiot. Saddens me to think of what the NE corner of the US has become. No doubt my kin folk are spinning in their graves. (Ref the sheriff being from NJ)

I love the word “but”. Everything before tat word is a lie. The northeast is full of “but conservatives”. Read this line again:
“I believe the Second Amendment was written with purpose and with sensitivity to generational circumstances. But what I am extremely concerned about is who has access to firearms and the devastation firearms are capable of in the wrong hands.”

I’ve still got my old books from Fur-FISH-GAME telling me how to make gunpowder out of a common chemical boiled with sugar, along with my old book on Greek Fire and natural gunpowder.

I am inspired how Cortez made gunpowder from locally found chemicals when he conquered the Aztecs.

So stupid sheriff do you teach all your officers to assume that no citizen they make contact with is never armed, not to even consider it or do you teach them to consider any contact to possibly be armed? If the former you need to be shot with a 3D gun to stop the stupid gene from being passed on.

If the later what’s the difference between getting shot with a cheap plastic gun rather than a metal one?

“Zip guns? Way before computers and 3D printers.”

Zip guns? How about STEN guns, M3 ‘Grease guns’, Luby machine pistols, DIY sheet metal pistols, and all the various hobbyist kits and conversions? As I said, if you’ve got a Dremel, and access to sheet metal and pipe/tubing, you have a gun, or as many as you have time, resources and inclination to make.

How is the state department supposed to stop anyone from posting anything on the internet?

We Can’t Stop terrorists from talking or plotting on the internet. nor can we stop anyone else from seeing anything on the internet.
we can’t even burn down the libraries which all also have books telling you how to make guns.

The remote idea ending guns has ended with the micro manufacturing Revolution.
You’re going to have to become a society that deals with the idea of everyone being armed.

Of course... Classic Concern Trolling by the Sheriff. “I’m progun, but...” Easy to spot.

Look at it this way “Sheriff”... If the BAD guys are only 10% of the population, why is it a BAD thing for the other 90% to ARM themselves against the BAG guys?

If anything, as victims ventilate their attackers... They’ll be doing you a huge service by taking out the trash for you.

“How about the gun shops in the Pakistan/Northern India area?”

They illustrate how it is possible to produce weapons, from replicas of the most primitive to fairly modern sophisticated firearms using simple hand and light machine tools. However, they are *shops*, and could conceivably be located and closed down if the authorities wanted to; certainly could be constrained more than they are.
