Very interesting article with plenty of good points, despite some of its inaccuracies. However, since the Miami Herald is the Florida version of the New York Times, what else could we expect?

So, no matter how the GOPe screws conservatives, they must be supported. Got it.

That is the exact approach that made the GOPe powerful, and drove them leftward.

So, what are you saying? That it’s preferable to elect Democrats than a Republican you call a RINO?

U.S. Rep. Tom Rooney knows the consequences of insufficient fealty to Trump. After the videotape surfaced in October 2016 of Trump boasting to “Access Hollywood’s” Billy Bush that he forced uninvited kisses on women and would “grab them by the -----,” the Okeechobee Republican withdrew his endorsement of Trump. “As the father of three young sons, I don’t want my boys growing up in a world where the president of the United States is allowed to speak or treat women the way Donald Trump has,” Rooney said then.

His voters never forgot it.

“I kind of lost my base in my district because of that ... A lot of the people who used to wear my T-shirts and go door-to-door for me now see me as an establishment RINO,” said Rooney. Even “A” ratings from Florida Right to Life, the National Rifle Association, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce could not compensate for his criticism of Trump.

“Ideology almost doesn’t matter anymore. It’s about unconditional loyalty to the president ... It’s literally like he cannot do anything wrong.”

This guy still doesn't get it. Trump's supporters don't think he's perfect; they understand that he is indispensable. Republicans who take shots at him are going to pay a significant price.

I’m saying that conservative principles should dictate the lower threshold of behavior at which support for GOPe is withdrawn. Open borders crap is one such threshold issue.

Having no standard beside party affiliation is the same cuckold suicide republicans have practiced for much of my life time.

Every two years we start getting browbeat using the exact arguments you present now. Funny thing - some of us with differing opinions are getting pretty ticked at how stupid those proposing the arguments think we are.

Do you care about winning elections or do you think it is more blessed to lose to a Democrat than win with less than perfect Republicans? What about Independents? Do you think we need some of them to win. Remember winning means denying a Democrat a victory? I say we use every available vote to deny Democrat victory.

I say you have no bedrock conservative principles.

I have not stated that I expect “perfect candidates”, only that they must be acceptable on certain issues. Failing that, a vote for them becomes endorsement of their liberal positions.

You signed up in 2017 to espouse the same old tired tropes. How unoriginal.

You’re ignoring the math. My overwhelming desire is to keep every Democrat possible from winning a seat and I’m willing to use anyone’s vote to accomplish the end. NO MORE. DEMOCRATS! EVER! I want the death of the corrupt Democrat party. Anyone who shares my goal is a friend of mine. MAGA!

You are ignoring conservative principles in you blatant demand that candidates not be held to even a minimal standard. Good luck with that, and goodbye, Republican cheerleader.

No, you’re ignoring the fact that the GOP enables the Mueller Coup and obstructs POTUS at every possible moment.

Sorry, I’ll be “voting for my wife” the next time Little Marco is on the ballot should the GOP succeed in obstructing the MAGA agenda WE VOTED FOR. We simply can’t support a party that does not respect our vote. Period.

“As much as I may be troubled by this evolution, I give [Trump] credit for single-handedly transforming an entire political party,” said former Florida Republican Chairman Al Cardenas, one of the architects of building GOP dominance in Tallahassee. “There’s a blind loyalty to him that I have never seen for any politician.”

Dirtbag Cardenas has it exactly backwards. POTUS is loyal to the GOP base. The GOPe led by the likes of Mitt “I’ll vote for my wife” Romney are disloyal to the point of trying to elect Hillary and her SCOTUS. How pathetic is that?

How do you think Trump got elected? It took every vote. My goal is exactly like yours but I’m pointing out the path to get there and we cannot afford to give up anyone’s vote. We welcome all who will vote with us. We cannot afford to tell anyone we do not want their vote.

Trump won without the support of the progressive wing of the GOP. Romney, Koch, Flake, etc. It will be the same in 2022. Until the GOPe fear the base nothing will change.

Every vote? You mean like this?

The income tax loving tariff hating progressive wing needs to flock on over to the Democrats where they belong. Then we can build a party which actually includes the American worker/labor and enjoy super majorities as far as the eye can see.

How does grass root blue collar and technology workers exist in the same party with WSJ, h-1B, open border, one sided ‘Free traders’? How is that possible? Answer: they can’t. Ditch the later and the former will come in legion.
