Clearances are usually valid for five years, and they go with the individual.
As long as they are on the job, in my opinion...Once they leave the position, the clearance should be cancelled...
“Clearances are usually valid for five years, and they go with the individual.”
That policy is insane. If that’s so, why 5 years? Why not 10 or for life?
True...then you have to get reinvestigated...but once you are read off from access you should no longer have access until read-on again. I’m trying to figure out if they are trying to revoke their clearances, meaning forever, or these jamokes still somehow have access!
Perhaps they are valid for that long, but security clearances have always been on a "need to know" basis. This means that if your job or role don't require you to know a particular piece of information, you don't get to know about it.
A security clearance is not like a subscription to a news feed or a magazine. You don't get sent daily emails with all the latest intelligence from the global intelligence agencies. That's not how this works. These Obama officials are no longer on the job, and should no longer be getting information.
But Trump can damn sure yank em anytime he feels like it and he should.
I had to sign a statement when I was released from the military saying I would not devulge any classified information for the rest of my life. Do it and you can go to prison. But never forget the Obama cronies think their above the law.
These aren't usual times and these people aren't friends of America - REVOKE NOW.
“Clearances are usually valid for five years, and they go with the individual.”
Wrong, they’re good for 10 years, at least the TS-SCI I had lasted from the beginning 1995 till the end of 2004. Also, I worked for Titan Corp at the time and they’re the ones that owned my TS-SCI, when we lost a contract and I went to work for ESN, they had to negotiate with Titan to take control of that clearance or I would have had to start the TS-SCI process over again had Titan not agreed to relinquish it.
No clearances belong to the billet..not the individual. When they left the job, the security clearance is deactivated.
Incorrect. Background investigations are good for 5 years. That tells security what clearance level you are eligible to receive. A clearance is granted on need to know basis and can, and is usually, revoked as soon as you no longer need to know.
If you leave the DOE your clearance is gone unless another organization requests that you keep it BEFORE you leave. If that request is not in and approved your clearance goes the minute you leave the site on your last day.
