Victim's girlfriend says Florida gunman provoked fatal 'stand your ground' shooting
ABC News ^ | July 2, 2018 | Karma Allen

Britany Jacobs, the girlfriend of the man shot and killed in a Florida parking lot last week, says her boyfriend was just coming to her defense and the gunman “wanted someone to be angry at.” Now she wants “justice,” she says.

Jacobs, who witnessed the shooting along with the couple’s 5-year-old son, said she and her two small children were waiting in the car for her boyfriend, Markeis McGlockton, while he ran into a convenience store in Clearwater, Florida. Onlooker Michael Drejka got out of his parked car and began “harassing” her about being parked in a handicap space, she said.

Surveillance video showed McGlockton exiting the store and shoving Drejka to the ground. Drejka then drew a handgun and shot and killed McGlockton.

I’m pretty sure, though not 100% positive, that Angela Corey is no longer a DA around here. She was the Martin DA who made an absolute fool of herself.

I am in Milton, Florida, which is fairly close to Clearwater, and no I don’t see him being sent to prison on this. Maybe he will be charged, but I don’t know.

I think the most important thing we can learn from this is just how easily one can be removed from this world by another.

Oh you think you can just walk up on someone and own them? Well, prepare to be owned.

It is really, REALLY in one’s best self interest to remain civilized. One does not know who is packin’ heat.

Some people are ruled by emotion others by reason.

The West was founded upon the rule of reason. It’s a sad state of Western civilization that so many Western adults are ruled by their emotions rather than reason.

There are a few on this thread. They are arguing right and wrong based upon ‘what would you do’ type emotions. They are not arguing reason or the law which, unbeknowst to them, are the only things which matter here.

Reason first.

Emotions last.

It was a lawful shooting. Unfortunate, but lawful.

Bottom line:
1) Be civil.
2) Be considerate.
3) Give people the benefit of the doubt.
4) Don’t start something you cannot predict or control.

The shooter violated the first three. The dead guy violated all four.

“would you be willing to prove your statement that the shooter has a history of ANYTHING you claim?”

All I wrote about the shooter’s history in the post to which you responded (345) was that “Apparently the shooter had a practice of confronting people in a State with legal CCW and a Stand Your Ground law.”

“Apparently” is an adverb that means “as far as one knows or can see.”

The posted article states:

The owner of the convenience store in Clearwater told ABC affiliate WFTS that Drejka had assaulted customers in the store’s parking lot before. And Rich Kelly, who frequents the store, claimed Drejka picked a fight with him over a parking spot about a month ago, calling him racial slurs and threatening to kill him, WFTS reported.

The above is reflected in the video at the top of the posted article at about the 2:50 point.

The article at this site ( https://www.wfla.com/8-on-your-side/investigations/stand-your-ground-convenience-store-shooting-why-did-he-pull-the-trigger-/1320956372 ) says:

Seven years ago a sheriff’s report included allegations by two teenagers that Drejka flashed a handgun at them during a road rage incident. Deputies found a gun in Drejka’s car, but he flatly denied brandishing it at the teens.

The article also states the incident occurred in Florida, which is a state that has legal CCW and a Stand Your Ground Law as follows:

JUSTIFIABLE USE OF FORCE

776.012 Use or threatened use of force in defense of person.—

(1) A person is justified in using or threatening to use force, except deadly force, against another when and to the extent that the person reasonably believes that such conduct is necessary to defend himself or herself or another against the other’s imminent use of unlawful force. A person who uses or threatens to use force in accordance with this subsection does not have a duty to retreat before using or threatening to use such force. (Emphasis added.)

(2) A person is justified in using or threatening to use deadly force if he or she reasonably believes that using or threatening to use such force is necessary to prevent imminent death or great bodily harm to himself or herself or another or to prevent the imminent commission of a forcible felony. A person who uses or threatens to use deadly force in accordance with this subsection does not have a duty to retreat and has the right to stand his or her ground if the person using or threatening to use the deadly force is not engaged in a criminal activity and is in a place where he or she has a right to be.

History.—s. 13, ch. 74-383; s. 1188, ch. 97-102; s. 2, ch. 2005-27; s. 3, ch. 2014-195.

I’m not going to paste the whole thing but it’s here:

I didn’t see any friend on the scene.

At the appearance of the gun he backed up and turned to move farther awy.

You folks sure love tossing the labels around. It’s hilarious.

Where in the law does it state that a store owner ‘must’ phone in a complaint if he has a problem on his parking lot?

You guys are grasping at straws.

I note you guys are pretty strict on the “courtroom proceedings here”. Why did none of you brain-trusts realize the prior record is not admissible as evidence?

I agree about the timing.

With regard to what the 47 year old wound up with, it’s a reason you don’t stick your nose in other people’s business.

I get it. You’re shocked. Just go out an pull this stunt with someone else’s girlfriend or spouse.

See what you wind up with.

“He didn’t receive the death penalty”

Oh you are dense. The guy is DEAD.

So not only did the shooter appoint himself to be the parking police, but he decided to be judge, jury, and executioner to murder someone who was no longer a threat.

“—(1) A person is justified in using or threatening to use force, except deadly force, against another when and to the extent that the person reasonably believes that such conduct is necessary to defend himself or herself or another against the other’s imminent use of unlawful force.”

So a question reasonable people might ask is: Did the dead guy have cause to reasonably believe that his conduct was necessary to defend another against the imminent use of unlawful force?

Yep. Just like the school shooter who had the cops called on him numerous times and still had access to guns.

You’re the one who characterized the shooter’s speech as if you knew, but seeing as how you could provide not even a single actual detail, I’m going to go ahead and assume that you were just talking out of your ass.

I agree with all of this.

Personally, if this was me and I could go back in time and alter the course of my day such that a man did not die at my hands as a result of assaulting me over a conversation I was having with his girlfriend over a parking lot, I would do that.

I would just leave the whole thing alone if I was that guy. Not saying he’s the cause, because he’s not. The man who brought violence into the equation is the cause. But if I could make the entire equation not ever having even existed by simply not being there, that’s what I would do.

A while ago I decided that I cannot save the world, it’s not my duty to do so. I cannot hold assholes accountable, and there have been times in my life where I have been the asshole who needed to be held accountable. So

1) Be civil.
2) Be considerate.
3) Give people the benefit of the doubt.

This seems like very good advice to live by.

completely untrue. BG’s friend went and got him.

Watch the whole tape from the beginning.

It's actually pretty wild.

https://www.wtsp.com/video/news/raw-pinellas-co-sheriffs-office-releases-surveillance-video-of- convenience-store-shooting/67-8195620

Basically, the family pulls up, and the kid and the father get out and go into the store [30 seconds].

As the door of the store is literally closing, the sh*tbird "parking space cop" pulls off the street as he appears to be on his way home. It looks like a last-second decision on his part - another instant and he would have had to go through the intersection instead.

He pulls up perpendicular to the "violator" car without actually parking, then goes and inspects first the rear of the vehcile and then the front of the vehicle for handicapped stickers.

Then he starts what he's been waiting for - the "CONFRONTATION". All this happens in about 45 seconds since he arrived.

Meanwhile, other vehicles are pulling up and parking, and another is getting ready to leave.

Parking lot cop gets a look or two from AALL of them, because he's apparently quite loud, with gesticulations.

One of the new arrivals (a guy), appears to go inside and tip off the boyfriend.

The boyfriend pops out the door [time from his entrance to the store and then exit - 2 minutes flat].

He walks up to parking lot cop and shoves him to the ground.

Then, he gets shot.

Total elapsed time from the time the family pulled in to the parking lot till the father gets shot - 2 minutes, 45 seconds.

Parking lot cop is a fast worker.

=============

I say it's wild because of all the stuff that could have prevented "toting dude" from starting the sh*t.

> He might have been distracted, and gone through the intersection instead
> A car pulling out almost blocked Drejka from pulling in
> Had the father been 5 seconds slower out of the car, he would have been there for the beginning of the tirade
> There were a couple of big dudes with a tow truck parked right next to where the action was at that got in their vehicle and left just as Drejka was pulling up

See my post #539, and watch the ENTIRE episode. It's about 3 minutes from start to finish.

chris - the shooter attracted the attention of all 3 people that were going in and out of the store, and one of them tipped off the boyfriend about what was going on.

The little shooter dude got a 2-minute window to start and finish his sh*t. As I wrote in that post, there were a lot of things that could have disrupted his script.

I think he's rather unfortunate, because if he doesn't go to prison, he's a marked man, now.
