Nine members of the same family are among the 17 people who died on Thursday night when a duck boat capsized in a Missouri lake.
The family were from Indianapolis, but have not yet been named. Two other members of the family, who were also on the boat, survived.
Bill Asher and his girlfriend Rose Hamman were also identified as among the dead by friends on Facebook on Friday afternoon.
Bill and Rose had been on a week-long holiday in Branson, and had spent their last evening away on the duck boat, friend Mary Ogborn Kientzy said.
Family confirmed the death of grandmother Leslie Dennison, who had been on the boat with her 12-year-old granddaughter Alicia, via Facebook.
Her son Todd told the Kansas City Star on Thursday his daughter, who is recovering in hospital, said she could feel Leslie pushing her up as the boat filled with water.
'She said her grandmother saved her,' he told the paper. Leslie is being mourned as a 'true hero'.
Another five people were killed in the tragic accident, including Robert 'Bob' Williams, 66, who was driving the boat when it went down in Table Rock Lake in Branson.

Were they wearing life preservers?
As you and I complain and moan about the assorted mundane problems we encounter in our daily life, stop and count your blessings. I cannot conceive of the grief that now befalls this family. God bless them. And go up and give one of your family members a hug. Time with them is priceless, and only God knows how much of it we have.
We just had a Family Reunion at The Wisconsin Dells and took a two-hour boat tour of the Wisconsin River and all of the Historic rock formations, etc.
I don’t even want to imagine it. :(
Prayers up for the shirt-tail relatives that have to deal with all of this.
Ditto that. Very sad.
The water is COLD!!! just speculating... if the boat capsized, a life perserver is the last thing you want on.
Prayers for all. So sad.
I looked up Duck Boats earlier. There were pictures from Branson. I did not see lifepreservers. These were just touristy photos.
I’ve been on a Duck Boat here in Boston and we didn’t wear life preservers. I assume they’re there if the boat sinks.
But the boat flipped too fast. There wasn’t time.
Huh?
****
.. if the boat capsized, a life perserver is the last thing you want on.
The video on the link is horrible. enclosed cabin, They were probably trapped inside
Me and my wife took the Duck Boat ride on Table Rock Lake a few years back. Lotta fun but we didn’t have life preservers on...I never thought about, but then I’m an excellent swimmer as is my wife.
I just can’t imagine not having everyone on the Duck with a life vest on, or at least when it started getting rough, passing them out and making sure everyone had one on! Especially the children. There is no excuse for what happened.
I wondered if they had on life vests, but even if they were, the boat, which is really heavy, probably knocked some of them in th head. And they might have had on some kind of seatbelt, that prevented them from getting out from under it.
The boat DIDN’T capsize. It was swamped and went down. It is in the middle of the summer here and the water wouldn’t be that cold. What happened was the lake water was very rough and the people were trapped inside when it went down,
I barely swim. I will not get in a boat without a life preserver.
See # 10 and Double triple Huhhhh
Add WTF
a life perserver will bring you up into the capsized boat while you are trying to swim down and get out.. IE: you will float and be trapped instead of swimming free. A life preserver is a death sentance when you are trapped inside a capsized boat. IMHO.. Thats why all the bodies were recovered so quickly, they all floated to the surface after they were dead and the boat righted itself as it sunk to the bottom. this is horrible. I just looked up the table rock water temp, it was 79.. it was 55 degrees when I was there in May 2016
Good advice. Thank you.
