Watch: Officer fires through window in Las Vegas car chase An officer in Las Vegas fired through a window in a dramatic high-speed car chase last Wednesday.
The police unit released the video on Monday which showed dramatic body camera footage of an officer at the wheel, grabbing his gun, and peppering his windhsield with bullets to stop the suspect from getting away.
The chase and shootout, which occurred July 11, came after officers responded to an attempted murder call, police said.
Another police car joined the chase but was shot at by the suspects a number of times. Metropolitan Police Department Assistant Sheriff Tim Kelly said in a statement that the second officers car was hit by bullets at least twice, forcing him to abandon the chase.
He added that during the pursuit, the two suspects, Fidel Miranda, 23, and 30-year-old Rene Nunez, fired 34 shots at officers and hit several marked police vehicles.
One suspect was killed during the pursuit, while the other was left wounded.
Those large round magazines are important.
I’m not sure why some government entities always want citizens to be at a disadvantage when the bad guys show up.
This officer was prepared. I’m glad he was.
I don’t think these two were your average thugs....
That’s badass.
The gun looked like it was a Glock. Show me a .357 that holds 15 rounds. I have a Sig P229 chambered for .357 Sig, but it only holds 12 because the round is essentially a necked down .40 S&W case.
I watched the video several times. That’s pretty messed up firing your weapon through the windshield while swerving/bouncing around, in a school zone, with motorist along the roadway.
As I watched, the first thing that went through my windshield...I mean, mind was, where are all those rounds traveling? If your aim is off by an inch, by the time that round contacts something, it could be off by feet/yards.
I realize there will be some who will disagree, but this guy should not be a cop. If you or I fired our weapons even in a remotely similar manner...we’d be locked up and charged with a felony.
Almost every pursuit I’ve seen in an urban environment, when an officer reports incoming fire, there are dozens of units responding. They could have cornered this vehicle, perhaps follow until they were in an area it could be rammed or run off the road...or even fired upon, but on a busy street?
Come on man!
He must have wounded them with the first clip. He was vulnerable while he loaded the second clip.
Why would such nice Irish boys do a thing like that?
Prolly not going to be working as a cop any more.
Super bad judgement on that last string of shots. First couple were nearly as bad.
They don’t have helicopters in Vegas? Couldn’t have pulled back, got to him when he crashed?
I’m assuming no innocent citizens were injured or killed when I say these officers did a great job stopping these bastards and protecting the public from them.
This took a lot of guts on the one cop’s part. The one firing through the windshield.
I saw from hash marks on his sleeve that he had been around a long time. It showed.
Wonder if they were illegal?
I wonder where the thugs rounds landed also. They popped off a bunch of rounds with a lot of cars, people, buildings and who knows what else around.
Penalty for running a stop sign?
I don’t think shooting through the windshield did much good.
Oh my ringing ears.
I would rather saved those rounds for the time I had a clearer shot at the suspects.
Thanks.
Seeing how the perps got off 34 shots, killing them was the only logical and heroic action available. It’s easier to apprehend a shooter after he bleeds out.
Those rockets could really come in handy. I don’t care if someone is slow. It’s all good.
But when they pass you to slow down in front of you.....lol
The first link made it look like the cop was firing on the criminals unprovoked.
The second link clarified that and for some reason no one is bothering to read my response to the second link.
I thought firing from a moving vehicle was a big no no for the police?
Well that was exciting! My only critique is he had a few rounds left in his 2nd clip...
