Trump-Putin summit could improve US-Russia relations -- And yes, that is a good thing
Fox News ^ | July 15, 2018 | Harry J. Kazianis | Fox News

Heading into his summit in Finland Monday with Russian President Vladimir Putin, President Trump has an important goal: improve relations with the world’s second-ranked nuclear power – but only if doing so will benefit the United States.

“Getting along with Russia would be a good thing, not a bad thing,” the U.S. president said in April – a sentiment he has voiced many times before and since, going back to his days as a presidential candidate.

President Trump – despite what his critics say – is not a naïve fool who will sell out the United States and our allies and make ridiculous concessions to Putin. And he understands that improving relations with Russia and changing Russian behavior is no easy task. But he also believes it’s worth a try.

The plain truth is that Russia is too big and too important a nation for any U.S. president to simply refuse to deal with. And because of that, it’s to our mutual benefit for America and Russia to no longer be enemies.

Yes, indeed. Russia can help us in the war on terror and are willing to do that.

There have been times when I thought President Trump has listened way too much to the Masters of War. It seems that since Mike Pompeo has been in place, President Trump is being more cynical about those who want forever war. How can Trump and Putin speaking directly and privately be anything but a good thing? Maybe they could strike a deal....Russia stops getting into insecure DNC computers and we stop toppling governments.

Good relations with Russia is the left’s nightmare since they need that particular boogyman to keep people whipped up with fear and justify the perpetual police state.

They’ll just stab us in the back. It’s what they do. Your average Russian is the most lying, corrupt, deceitful, two-faced, ignorant, arrogant pr!ck this side of a rag head.

Anyone who trusts them to keep to their word is a fool who will learn a harsh lesson as they try to withdraw the knife from their back.

Russia is no longer a communist country. We have mutual interests in fighting Muslim terrorism.

An ally of Iran? Really? Russia is anti-US. They’d love nothing more to see our destruction. Russians HATE us with a passion. Don’t kid yourself

The post Soviet Russia is still a player in the world. Western Europe is a bunch of clowns turning the region into a Caliphate. We don’t have to agree on everything but Russia can be a good ally.

I’d like to see a joint statement about the supposed Russian interference in the 2016 election.

If the “accusation” is that Russians were informing people about weak points in Hillary Clinton’s fitness to serve, then I don’t really see (a) how we needed Russians to tell us this obvious set of facts, nor (b) why it is supposed to be a bad thing.

Is the accusation that these bad things were made up (false) or that we weren’t supposed to know (we would have known had Russia been on another planet)?

Give the media narrative every chance to chew over the statement and make them look like idiots, with the implication: serious men who lead major nations have more important things to do than to play stupid games about made up inconsequential fairy tales (then add climate change and the need for respect of 382 new genders to that list).

We don’t have to be BFFs with Russia. Just work together on general goals and stay out of each other’s hair. Neither country wants a conflict.

Bigoted much?

Thank you for insulting part of my heritage. A heritage that I happen to be proud of.

These days I’m much more proud of my Russian ancestry than my Irish ancestry.

Don’t confuse the Russian people with the Russian Government.

“An ally of Iran?” “Really?”

Considering that we are “allies” with freaking Saudi Arabia, we have no room to criticize.

Russians don’t hate all Americans. Just the ignorant Americans who hate Russians just for being Russian.

So Trump meets with Kim, and soon Putin, so here is what he needs to do for an encore: Come to Rahmabad, capitol city of Madiganistan, and bring DEA, ICE, and ATF leadership. Tell NeverTrumper Rauner to stay home since he is a useless jerk. Talk about a hostile environment! The Baby Trump balloons would blacken the skies and stop O’Hare air traffic.

Russia in the long term has hope. Not under Putin. He is Soviet evil minus the Marxist label. He has traded in his KGB garb for a phony Christian mask. He is a Stalinist. Economically: an oligarchic capitalist who has looted his country and wants to emulate the worst tsars.

But deals can be made with him. His kleptocracy needs to be sanctioned way more though.

And no. Putin’s Russia dos not fight terror, they stoke terrorism. Just under a different banner than “ISIS.” And it’s not ISIS they care about.

It’s USA. Revenge. As Putin said himself, the fall of the Soviet Union wss the greatest catastrophe of the 20th Century. And with his State-media he has brainwashed Russians into thinking their miseries are due to America and not their former societal ways spilling into now.

Russians don’t “hate” Americans. They admire and envy Americans. And politically: they resent the society and republic we have managed to build and maintain, despite all its flaws. Why? Because every heated election, every peaceful transfer of power at a January inauguration serves as a reminder to them of every wasted year spent living under tyranny and serfdom. First under the tsars, then the Soviets, and now Putin.

And when Russians find the strength within themselves to build and BE a free society themselves, then they won’t be trying to sabotage ours.

No more tripping the prom queen. God bless them.

First of all, thank you for at least regarding Russians as human beings. Unfortunately, there are a few who take their hatred of Russia too personally. I commend you for your respect.

You are correct about the sad, bloody history of Russia, from the tsars to the present. The people have never known true freedom.

After the fall of the Soviet Union, I was hopeful. Sadly, Yeltsin was an alcoholic who embarrassed the Russian people with his drunken antics.

As I’m sure you know, the Russian economy tanked under Yeltsin and organized crime flourished. I remember hearing regular stories of Mob related explosions in Moscow and other cities of businesses who ran afoul of the Russian mafia.

I still have hope that, one day, Russia can build a truly free, stable society. I just hope they never allow depravity such as gay pride parades, homosexual propaganda in schools and media, etc. I do applaud them for that.

Personally, China scares me more than Russia. China is very wealthy and worries me with their aggression in the South China Sea.

Mexico is also a problem. They interfered with our election by sending illegals to vote for Hillary but people ignore their duplicity and focus on Russia. Mexico is the country conducting a stealth invasion of the US, not Russia.

It will be interesting to see what comes of the upcoming summit.
