Survival of the richest: The wealthy are plotting to leave us behind
CNBC ^ | July 11, 2018 | Douglas Rushkoff, author of "Team Human"

Posted on 07/13/2018 8:59:28 PM PDT by familyop

They knew armed guards would be required to protect their compounds from the angry mobs. But how would they pay the guards once money was worthless? What would stop the guards from choosing their own leader? The billionaires considered using special combination locks on the food supply that only they knew. Or making guards wear disciplinary collars of some kind in return for their survival...

That’s when it hit me:...they were preparing for a digital future that had a whole lot less to do with making the world a better place than it did with transcending the human condition altogether and insulating themselves from a very real and present danger of climate change, rising sea levels, mass migrations, global pandemics, nativist panic, and resource depletion. For them, the future of technology is really about just one thing: escape.

The interface didn't require an excerpt, but the excerpt will help readers to avoid missing the main essence of the article before reading the bulk of material unrelated to the part of the thesis more interesting to most readers. Reading the whole piece is worthwhile, though, and might add more detailed context.

Their so-called belief in climate change requires them to insert it into stories where it has no real place.

By the way, the wealthy survivalist clients invited and paid Rushkoff to deliver answers to them. Apologies for not including that part.

See comment #3. Five wealthy men paid Rushkoff to give them technological answers to their questions about surviving disasters feared by them. The article is in the Tech section of CNBC as an op-ed (not a blog).

“They knew armed guards would be required to protect their compounds from the angry mobs.”

Idiots. The thought of actually defending themselves never entered their minds. “

“But how would they pay the guards once money was worthless?”

That’s always the rub.

“What would stop the guards from choosing their own leader?”

Killing them, I suppose. But how would you do that if they have the guns?

“The billionaires considered using special combination locks on the food supply that only they knew”

That trick never works.

“Or making guards wear disciplinary collars of some kind in return for their survival...”

Good luck with that. Once again, the guards have guns.

This is also from the article, since no excerpt was required by the posting interface.

"I just sat there at a plain round table as my audience was brought to me: five super-wealthy guys — yes, all men — from the upper echelon of the hedge fund world."

They think everything will be cool for them because, they think they will be in charge.

Not so fast, Billionaire Bob. I plan on eating the rich if things go like Venezuela.

Strange that the book of Revelation says they will do this exact thing.

Have you read “Mask of The Red Death” by Edgar Allan Poe? Ain’t no one getting out of here alive.

It is their “belief” in climate change that matters. The Elites figure that in to their plan.

“...five super-wealthy guys — yes, all men — from the upper echelon of the hedge fund world.”

It starts when you begin thinking of just how many more billions you can make when disaster REALLY hits. Of course then there’s the realization of once you have all of the billions and everything else around you is collapsing.

“You know, I was happier when I became a millionaire when just all of those banks went under in 2008.”

The best thing the ultra rich can do to promote their survival and safety is to support freedom and prosperity for all and stand against socialism in all of its forms.

I think that many rich people are egotistical and love the socialist model where only a handful of privileged elites get to live in ivory towers while the rabble lives in the dirt. They want to look down on people; this is how they attain a sense of self-worth. But those oppressed rabble can make life very dangerous for the ultra rich in their enclaves. Far better to promote capitalism. The middle class aren’t as likely to attack, since they are already living fairly well.
