On Saturday, the U.S. Embassy in Haiti warned American citizens, volunteers and missionaries in Haiti to stay in place and hunker down after angry demonstrators attempted to get past a barricade and security guards at a Port-au-Prince hotel.
CNN reports that American Airlines, JetBlue and the Spirit Airlines (whose official slogan is: Were like a Greyhound bus with wings) canceled all flights to Haiti following unrest in the country related to rising fuel prices, corruption and widespread poverty.
When comparing them side-by-side, the story of the American Revolution aint got shit on the history of Haiti. For black people, Haiti represents the most beautiful story of strength, resistance and freedom that has ever been told. It is the story of a people who thrust off the chains of bondage and took their liberty from the hands of their oppressors.
For others, Haiti is a tragedy. There are some, whose names do not deserve mention, who even refer to it as a shithole country. But when discussing anything having to do with the country of Haiti, we should never forget that every bit of struggle in Haiti is related to the legacy of slavery, capitalism and American hypocrisy.
As unrest envelops Haiti once again, it is important for us to remember that Haiti suffers from a worldwide collusion between America and European countries intent on making the tropical paradise suffer. To blame Haitis problems on white people is not a harebrained hypothesis. It is an unbelievably treacherous fact that it often sounds like a kooky conspiracy theory.

Slavery needed cheap land, in order to maintain its economic viability. A free man, working his own land, would be much more industrious than a slave who only worked as hard as he had to, and take every opportunity to goof off. As the country filled up, free men would drive up the price of land. If slaves were not economically viable, then their price would drop to nothing.
The Haitian HIV rate is among the highest in the region. People who can't be bothered to use condoms to protect themselves from HIV are not going to be likely to be effective practitioners of "Natural Family Planning"
It needed not only cheap land, it needed land capable of growing cash crops which required a lot of labor. Mechanical harvesting systems for grains had already been developed, and so labor was not so significant for such crops. It was however necessary (at the time) for the most significant cash crop of that era; Cotton.
The land in the territories was not capable of growing Cotton. Therefore slavery would have never flourished in any of the territories.
A free man, working his own land, would be much more industrious than a slave who only worked as hard as he had to, and take every opportunity to goof off. As the country filled up, free men would drive up the price of land. If slaves were not economically viable, then their price would drop to nothing.
Which is exactly what would have happened eventually. Slavery would have abolished itself given another 20-80 years. Those wishing to hurry it along only caused more bloodshed and much disaster.
Birth control is an inalienable right for Haitian women. In fact, they can't be denied birth control because birth control is an inherent aspect of humanity. It's really so easy and cheap: don't open up your legs...BANG! Birth control!.
The problem is not access to birth control but rather the unwillingness to avail yourself of it.
If Dominican women lack the healthcare card or copay, a hospital will let them go home to die and NOBODY cares; certainly not you. But if a Haitian shows up at a Dominican hospital ready to pop without so much as identity papers or money, she's given immediate care or you'll have France, Germany and (until recently) Obama to answer to.
I say, give them the incentive to make wise choices by making her take responsibility for her actions. For every 10 women giving birth in Dominican hospitals, nine are Haitians. At the current rate, Haitians replace the native population in Santo Domingo in a decade.
Nor effective users of foams, sprays, jellies and jams, plugs and rubbers. Or even pills. ((((Sigh.))))
If left to their own devices, I think they will eventually fall to the "Easter Island" solution.
Go screw yourself!
I'm aiming for the solution which decreases the probability of my own family and descendants having to deal with invading hordes of underclass, as per the "Camp of the Saints" scenario.
What's the source of this inalienable right? The Haitian Constitution? The United Nations? God?
Haitian women, like everybody else, male and female, poor and rich, white and black, and no matter their nsationality or creed, have a right to Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness -- rights endowed by our Creator. All this stems from the fact that we are, or ought to be, self-governing. That's not just Birth Control. That's Self-Control.
Human cultures vary, but human nature does not vary in its essentials. All people who have adequate cognitive function and no gun to their heads, can control fertility by controlling fertile behavior.
NFP empowers couples to prevent, time, or achieve pregnancy via their own choice and their own behavior, by having sufficient information which cannot be taken away from them, and without the aid or the interference of anybody else on earth.
That's why it ought to be the normative method of family planning.
Mrs. Don-o, please believe I hold you in the highest respect. Nonetheless, you need to understand we're not talking "couples" here. This is a situation where a woman will give birth-Oh, forget it!-bear a litter of ten children with ten different sperm donors. This is a deliberate demographic invasion. Remove the incentive and the problem resolves itself.
If you read my post carefully, you'll find no distinction between your position and mine.
Y’know, I kinda suspected as much. :o)
Which means the only options which might have a chance of being effective, are implanted birth control (IUD, Norplant, etc) or sterilization.
That, or letting nature take its course with mass starvation, which is what will happen when the economic system which allows mass charity to feed them, finally collapses.
Blocking measures you consider morally dubious, will eventually guarantee an outcome you will consider morally horrifying.
Kipling was right. It is a burden.
Whatever their motivation structure may be.
Some people actually expect to get their most durable human satisfaction and security from their kids and not from their 40l(k). That's why I like the one "family planning" method which works without the aid or interference of anybody else on earth.
I was making the point, that no wall is effective against sufficiently desperate climbers.
Haitian people have a right to Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness.
I decline to consider they have an unlimited right to my property, in order to shield them from their own inadequacies.
If you add some dancing with chicken feet and candles to your NFP scheme - the Haitians might try it for a day. Until they lose interest and go back to being low-IQ adult children.

Hedley Lamarr: Qualifications?
Gum Chewer: [chewing gum] Murder... armed robbery... mayhem...
Hedley Lamarr: Wait a moment. What have you got in your mouth?
Gum Chewer: [stops chewing] Nuff’m.
Hedley Lamarr: “Nuff’m”, eh? Lyle!
Lyle: [searches the man’s mouth] Gum!
Hedley Lamarr: Chewing gum on line, eh? I hope you brought enough for everybody.
Gum Chewer: [panicked] I didn’t know there was going to be so many!
[Hedley shoots the gum chewer]
Jim: [hidden behind a rock] Boy, is he strict!
Blazing Saddles (1974)
One of the funniest movies ever made.

They also stole their children and sold them as sex slaves around the world.
