Our society has truly turned “soft”.

How many of us grew up without air conditioning altogether? We survived.

How many of us remember the summer of 2000?

How about the Summer of 1980?

And many others where the temperatures made this Summer’s (so far) temps look rather mild.

As a child of the late 70’s/early 80’s, growing up with nothing but an attic fan for “cooling” - and who still went out and rode his bicycle, mowed the yard, washed the car, etc. - I just cant’ help but shake my head at all the alarmists and snowflakes.

I mentioned the summer of 2000, which here in Arkansas started in May that year - when we had 15 days over 100 degrees in MAY. That Summer went on to see (at least in the town I lived in at the time) 75+ days over 100 - It wasn’t a “dry heat” or any other supposedly safer/more comfortable version of Hades on earth... We didn’t have widespread deaths. Yes - farmers and their hands, construction workers, etc. experienced heat exhaustion and such - at the same rate as usual in Summers here in Arkansas.

I remember quite well - droughts. They happened 100 years ago. They happened 50 years ago - and they still happen today. Yet somehow today, it is a product of “manmade global warming/climate change”. And it supposedly has caused the serious outbreaks of wildfires. Never mind that the management practices of much of the lands affected by these fires has changed. Far less controlled burns are conducted. Further - if someone is going to light a fire that is against the law - during a burn ban, and let it get out of control (the current big Colorado fire) - that is going to happen. You have buttholes all over.

As I sit here in my air-conditioned office - I thank God for Air Conditioning. But I also question whether it has been overall a positive for our society.

Officially - we have not yet hit 100 degrees here this year. It is July 5. It is the typical hot (93 degrees F) of Summer- well, actually a few degrees less. Humidity is very high (typical) even though we are on the low side of rainfall totals.

Me, for one. Even our schools didn't have air conditioning, in Florida!......................
