Cindy McCain has been offered her husband's Senate seat
Senator John McCain will resign his US Senate seat on July 4, 2018, says an aide who asked not to be named because he was not authorized to speak to the press.
"In the end, it was about Kennedy resigning from the Supreme Court," said the aide. "Confirming a (SCOTUS) replacement before the election is considered in the interest of the national Republican party, so that it doesn't become an issue for Dems to run on in every race," said the aide, meaning every race for Senate or Congress.
The Aide indicated that the Senator wanted to wait until June 1 to resign, so that his seat would not be on the ballot along with retiring Jeff Flake. Republican Gov. Doug Ducey will appoint a Senator to serve until the 2020 election.
The aide said that Ducey has quietly offered McCain's seat to Cindy, but the 64 year old wife of Senator John McCain has made no decision as of yet. "Understandably, she doesn't want to think about it," he added.

Ummm... there are 51 GOP senators.
The current Senate is comprised of 51 Republicans, 47 Democrats, and two Independents who caucus with the Democrats.

I think when you do the math, and consider that John McCain is no longer able to vote, it comes out like this:
SCENARIO 1A - John McCain stays in Senate, but cannot vote:
50-49 Republican, 1 defection to “NO” loses the nomination, unless offset by a Democrat
SCENARIO 1B - John McCain stays in Senate, but cannot vote:
50-49 Republican, 1 defection to “PRESENT” (or non-voting) makes it 49-49, and Pence breaks the tie, and the nominee is confirmed.
SCENARIO 2 - Cindy McCain is in Senate and votes yes:
51-49 Republican, 1 defection makes the outcome 50-50, Pence breaks the tie, and the nominee is confirmed.
SCENARIO 3A & 3B - Cindy McCain is in Senate and votes no:
50-50 tie, Pence breaks the tie, and the Republican is confirmed; One defection to “NO” or one to “PRESENT” loses the nomination (49-50).
So it only works against us if someone is a no-show or votes “present”, but if they all vote, Cindy can only help us, not hurt us.

The Republicans will get three to five Democrat votes to confirm the POTUS, Trump choice for the next Associate Supreme Court Justice. No Democrat that is in serious re-election trouble will give up his or her seat to Chuck Schumer, or anyone else. They will vote “yes” to save their seats. This game is over.
If McCain resigns, that is a good thing because the voters of Arizona right now are without one senator that can vote. If it is Cindy McCain and she votes for Trumps Supreme Court nominee, that is OK!!!
