Fired manager Darin Hodge said the issue erupted when he asked a customer to take off their MAGA hat. In an emailed statement, he said he would do it again.
I stand by my decision to ask the patron to remove his hat. The MAGA hat has come to symbolize racism, bigotry, islamaphobia [sic], misogyny, white supremacy, homophobia. As a person with a strong moral backbone, I had to take a stand against this guests choice of headwear while in my former place of work, he wrote.
Eva Gates, Vice president of Human Resources for the Sequoia Group of Restaurants which owns the Teahouse agreed with how the incident began, but said it amounted to a refusal of service.
Great writing on that Show. The way he just stood there without saying anything else was classic.
RIP James Gandolfini.
If you ever saw Get Shorty, Gandolfini played the Bodyguard that Travolta pushed down the Stairs.
“It’s a free country.”
Yes, it is. But, freedom to do something doesn’t mean it’s the thing to do. After all, half the voting public voted for Hillary. :-)
Except for special occasions, usually solemn, I don't take my hat off indoors unless I'm home. It may have been a custom at one time but those days are long over with. I do see some of the older guys taking off their hats indoors but far more don't.
"As a person with a strong moral backbone, I had to take a stand against this guests choice of headwear....."
I've noticed more invocations of "morality" from self-identified progressives recently.
I am NOT talking about WOMEN!! I said MEN! And even a Jewish man should have the manners to take off their BASEBALL HAT IN A RESTAURANT! geesh .where are these people coming from?
President Trump will continue to make snowflakes melt.
Film at eleven.
5.56mm
Even snowflakes who live in Cana-duh.
The lack of common courtesy such as removing caps/hats indoors, not just dining is surprising. As a boomer I was raised to never wear headgear inside and I see guy my age and older with ballcaps, cowboy hats on and can only shake my head. I only said something one time. A guy my age at a restaurant table next to mine wearing a Vietnam Vet cap with button all over it eating. He came into the restroom while I was in there and I casually stated 'you must have had lenient NCO's in your outfit, in the 101st my Sarge would be taking me for midnite marches if I wore a cover indoors.
Seems like NO PARENTS teach MANNERS today, or probably for the last 40 years!
Agreed......that always bothered me about people wearing Che Gevara T-shirts when they had no idea what he was about. The real Che would just as soon slit their throats & run their arm through it.
At the university I used to work, the graduate students who ran the on-campus bar put Che’ on a t-shirt. Well, I was a volunteer bartender, and while given a shirt for free, I returned it and informed them I couldn’t wear a shirt for a guy who would outright try to kill every last one of them if he could. It didn’t faze them at all.
Oh well.
LOL - only because liberals are nuts...
Maybe their commandment from Gd is slightly higher than ancient etiquette.
While a vast majority of men who wear hats indoors are just boorish yahoos, there are any number of reasons to wear a hat indoors which are perfectly valid. Two that quickly come to mind are:
1) Religious reasons. Orthodox Jews (like my late f-i-l) always cover their heads indoors and out. In his case, he chose a regular baseball cap to a yarmulke.
2) Medical reasons. Perhaps the man has a rather ugly looking scar on his head from surgery and wishes, for reasons of modesty and good taste, to hide it from the public.
Wear the Yarmukle .NOT the baseball cap! And why should anyone be ashamed to show they are Jewish?
I understand. Thx.
Not ashamed, just wanting to fit in. Maybe for safety as well. A Jewish man can wear any headcovering he wants. I dont know what it hurts in a coffee shop or casual restaurant if a guy wears a baseball cap. Im siding with the Orthodox Jew here.
It’s a VERY nice restaurant....at least when we were ther years ago.....maybe it’s not just a diner.....still....men should NOT wear a baseball cap when eating! GAUCHE!
