President Trump on Friday said he has narrowed his list of potential Supreme Court nominees to about five, including two women, and plans to announce his pick on July 9.
Ive got it narrowed to about five, he told reporters on Air Force One en route to his New Jersey golf club, where he said he plans to interview one or two candidates this weekend.
Trump said he would interview six to seven candidates in total, saying, "I like them all."
We have great people, Trump said of his short list. Highly talented, brilliant, mostly conservative judges.
Trumps comments are the latest sign he is moving rapidly to replace Justice Anthony Kennedy, who announced his retirement this week. Kennedy's retirement does not become official until July 31.
A July 9 announcement would come just before Trump leaves for a six-day trip to Europe and could set up a potential confirmation vote as early as the fall.
The vacancy has given Trump an opportunity to solidify conservative control of the nations highest court.

“Pence backs her...”
If Pence backs her, it’s guaranteed to be a disaster.
You have good instincts
Uh-huh. Trump is smart enough to know that her looks will make it just that much harder for the left to demonize her. And if this is going to be about abortion, having a woman with seven kids who’s about to take a seat at the age of 46 on the Supreme Court will be devastating to the argument that making abortion illegal will prevent woman from living their lives to the fullest.
Yes, it was a gut feeling; however, as I said, I did quite a bite of digging/investigation, because I knew very little about Pence back then. I was neither impressed by him, nor found much of anything in his favor. So anyone he pushes is a big HELL NO, as far as I'm concerned.
No she isn’t and besides which THAT is NOT how to pick a new Justice!
The lefties will SHRED her for having 7 kids!
Her looks don't matter; look how they treat Melania, Ivanka, etc.!
And I want someone who is NOT favored by Pence, Ivanka, etc.!I want a STRICT CONSTITUTIONALIST who also knows how to fight back, as Justice Thomas did!
Such as . . .
Just which part of my post are you finding incomprehensible?
Just wondering who you’d prefer to see nominated . . .
OTOH...as I stated earlier, a Pence recommendation means I'm against it.
I like Amy Barrett and Don Willett. Willett would be a perfect replacement for Ginsburg. Need to read more on the others.
My sentiment exactly.
“Short list? How does their height come into play in a decision like this?”
Maybe he’s hinting at Judge Judy. ?
Amy and her husband, Jesse Barrett, have seven children.
Looks like the same person to me.
Amy has blue eyes. Deep deep blue eyes. She graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts in English literature from Rhodes College, where she was a Phi Beta Kappa member. She received her law degree at Notre Dame Law School with a Juris Doctor. She was executive editor of the Notre Dame Law Review. Beauty is matched with great intellect. I think it is going to be her. She has a remote resemblance to Melania.
That doesn't constitute "doing due diligence and a thorough investigation first".
Even a broken clock (VP Mike Pence) is right twice a day. Why not evaluate each Supreme Court candidate based on individual merit?
If Pence supported James Mattis for Defense Secretary—and I presume he did—would you have been against Mattis then?
What if Pence's preference just happens to be a "strict Constitutionalist"? A candidate shouldn't be discounted simply because someone you don't like prefers him/her. I can't imagine Pence not wanting a strict Constitutionalist, and I think Pence may very well have "evolved" into more of an anti-Establishment figure after sufficient exposure to Donald J. Trump, and given what the Vice President has now seen with his own eyes.
If President Trump decides not to run for reelection in 2020—or instead runs wins reelection in 2020—then, sooner or later, Vice President Mike Pence could certainly become the 46th President of the United States. So let's hope Pence isn't (still?) as bad as you think...
I wish he would pick Jeanine Pirro for supreme court justice. Overall I think she got her head screwed on right. Oh well, just a thought and a wish... ..
