The campaign against the presidents zealots will be a major test of strength for civil rights and abortion rights groups. A new Democratic lion is needed
Republican president who is eager to build a clear, conservative majority on the United States supreme court and too sure of his political ground overreaches. He picks a rightwing zealot for the open seat created by the retirement of a justice. At stake in the subsequent political battle over his nomination is the constitutional right of American women to have an abortion.
This was the Washington drama that unfolded in 1987 when the president was Ronald Reagan, and his supreme court nominee was the controversial Robert Bork. Over a quarter of a century later, history is about to repeat itself in the latest crucial political test of the Donald Trump era.
Anthony Kennedy, who this week announced his retirement as a justice of the supreme court, was a decent man. His decisions upholding gay rights and legalising gay marriage will earn him a deserved place in history. Although some of his votes on abortion cases were bad, at the most pivotal moment in a watershed 1992 decision he voted to uphold the Roe v Wade supreme court decision to safeguard a womans right to an abortion. Granted, Kennedys votes in this latest term were consistently awful and solidly conservative, but there were other crucial moments when he was the swing vote and chose to uphold human rights and decency. His replacement, if Trump gets his way, will have none of those moderating tendencies.
Already Trumps first court pick, Neil Gorsuch, has formed an unholy alliance with the most rightwing justice, Clarence Thomas....

If Jill’s upset, I’m happy.
Crush the ‘resistance ‘ , nuke the F out of them all
If history is any guide, this soon-to-be-coronated “Lion” ought to be part of a waitress sandwich with another pervy dem right about now.
Obama had a chance to stack it up if the liberal justices colluded. Breyer, Kennedy and Ginsberg did not budge. We have the possibility of 7-2 for a very long time. That would be devastating to this new socialism trend going on with the scum left.
Brits also like to lecture us Yanks about our “lax gun laws” even as they are disarmed & being overrun with Muslims backed by their government.
Sod off, mate.
Thanks.
I don’t know enough about any candidate to offer an opinion.
As usual, I will see, who $oreA$$’s mediots hate the most. If that candidate is hated the most by the Democrats and our undocumented democrats, that person will probably be the one I want to see as our newest Supreme!
“Brits also like to lecture us Yanks about our lax gun laws even as they are disarmed & being overrun with Muslims backed by their government.”
That irks me the most about the Brit Mediots.
They know that our ancestors were armed and knew how to fight/kill Redcots in both wars that started England’s decline.
So on target I almost think you have second sight here.
But, no, it’s the ol’ Dem playbook. You’re right.
Omg, this is so CUTE!
Look for theatrics from Sheldon Whitehouse. He’s from got what is considered a safe seat and feels he can say and do anything he wants. He’s also a complete moron.
“Anthony Kennedy, who this week announced his retirement as a justice of the supreme court, was a decent man.”

But, as we all know, this is going to be a dirty and nasty fight - Kennedy didn’t have a very coherent judicial philosophy, other than “how do I make myself important - oh, I know, I’ll make myself the swing vote on as many cases as possible.” For an utterly drivel-filled idiot like Jill to say that he was a decent person means that he was someone that the Leftists counted on for crucial votes on social issues. They aren’t getting someone like that from Trump (TAKE NOTICE OF THIS, NEVER TRUMPERS!!!!) - they’re going to get someone in the mold of Scalia, Thomas or Gorsuch.
Suck it up, Leftists. Elections have consequences, you know!
Over at the DUmp theyre talking about the possibility of packing the court, a la FDR, again. If their 4-term socialist in elite trappings couldnt do it, why are they nurturing this fantasy now? (Other than that they live on Fantasy Island, I mean)
They need another Swimmer. (And another Grand Dragon, like Robert Byrd, to be their conscience)
Plus, their little nuclear option has backfired on them.
Anthony Kennedy was the replacement choice when Robert Bork's nomination was defeated. The country would have been better off with Bork on the Court. Bork died in 2012 when Obama was President, but he was 85 at the time so might have retired earlier had he been on the Court.

Any chance that Trump’s nominee gets any votes from Dems? Joe Manchin has got to know that he’s toast if he votes no.
FR: Never Accept the Premise of Your Opponents Argument
With all due respect to mom & pop, please consider the following.
If Democratic parents were making sure that the pre-born children that they dont murder were eventually taught about the federal governments constitutionally limited powers as the Founding States had intended for those powers to be understood, then their children would understand the following when they are able to vote.
Regardless that post-17th Amendment ratification career lawmakers promise low-information voters politically correct civil rights laws to get themselves elected and reelected, the states have never given the feds the power to make civil rights laws that deal with things outside the scope of rights that the states amend the Constitution to expressly protect.
In other words, thanks to the post-17A ratification Senate, state sovereignty-ignoring Democratic activist Supreme Court justices wrongly expand the already unconstitutionally big federal governments powers by declaring that Congresss unconstitutional civil rights laws that the Senate helps the likewise corrupt House to pass are constitutional, thus insuring reelection votes for Democrats & RINOs.
The bottom line is this. In order for patriots to make their cleanup of Congress in November permanent, and for Pres. Trump to make his vision for MAGA last for many generations, patriots need to support Trump in leading the states to repeal the 16th and ill-conceived 17th Amendments.
Hahaha... funny Grampa. Me too.
I'm really beginning to wonder how much good our Euro "allies" are doing us anymore. Mostly a bunch of one-sided relationships - with us on the ass-end of each.
