25 States Move to Keep Trump Off 2020 Ballot
Newsmax ^ | 24 Jun 2018 | Erick Mack

The latest resistance plan against President Donald Trump's 2020 election campaign includes attempts in at least 25 states to pass a law that requires presidential candidates to release their tax returns to appear on the ballot.

President Trump is the only modern-day president to refuse to release his personal tax returns, so conceivably a law passed to require that could block him from the ballot. The issue with that trolling plan is no state has been able to officially pass a law requiring it.

Even deep blue California and New Jersey have vetoed the laws after it had passed both state chambers, but both Rhode Island and Maryland are currently working such a law in their state Houses after passing it in their Senate chambers, according to Axios.

Former Gov. Chris Christie, D-N.J., had called the attempt in his state a "transparent political stunt" in vetoing the law, while Gov. Jerry Brown, D-Calif., said it "sets a 'slippery slope' precedent for what individuals states could require of candidates," per Axios.

Such laws might wind up being battled in the Supreme Court, too, because they might not be constitutional. The top U.S. court has ruled in the past states nor the federal government can create new requirements for House or Senate candidates, AP reports, which likely would extend to the head of the executive branch, too.

Another one of the lefts unintended consequences...once this is ruled unconstitutional, which it is, then no one will ever have to show them again even though it has NEVER been required! Batter up! Swing for the fences progs!

You don’t let Trump off the hook by pointing out Obama’s secret life.

It would be tough to get off the hook you were never on. Comparing Trump and Ohole, is akin to comparing ValJal to a monkey. We all know shes a reptile. When it comes to this Trumper, he has nothing more to prove to me other than keeping up the good fight. All leftist progs making demands of my President can suckit!

That’s the hallmark of all leftists — telling everybody else how they should live, what house they should live in, what car they should drive. Just like the Soviet Union.

“For the life of me, I can’t find anything about taxes in the Constitution as a requirement for running for President.”

That won’t stop them. Over the past 50+ years the Supreme Court has found all sorts of things that are constitutional even though they are not in the Constitution.

Let's see not, since Trump has been president he has earned 1 dollar per year.

Yes! I would like to see a tax return on that one dollar!!!

Probably an unconstitutional ex-post-facto law, if they attempt to apply it to a sitting president; I think there might also be a constitutional provision against passing laws directed at specific individuals. Also, states don’t have the power to set new requirements for presidential office - it would require a constitutional amendment.

You do realize this is just another way to give Trump the flyspeck analysis and drag everything through the mud.

With no ballots, they can’t write in his name. If they can to begin with.
I don’t know how that works.

Since the left say there is no vote fraud, R’s will have to triple down on their Trump votes.

Well, considering the contortions that Justice Roberts did on the unACA in regards to if it was a tax (then it must originate in the House), or not a tax, I trust those black robed bureaucrats less than I could thrown them.

I can picture them sitting around the bong in a “brainstorming” session.

“Got any ideas”.

“Nope. You?”

“Nothing.”

“Well, what do we hate most about Trump?”

“That he’s rich. We could pass a law that says if you’re rich you can’t run.”

“Well so is Hillary and most of our candidates.”

“Oh yeah. Forgot about that”

“Hey how about tax returns? He didn’t release his tax returns so how about a law saying you have to release them?”

“Great idea. Let’s get on it!”

..... 2.5 years later.... “Damn. That backfired on us, too.”

The Constitution (as you all know) lays out the requirements necessary to be president.

Revealing your income tax returns was not one of them.

The Income Tax Passed by Congress on July 2, 1909, and ratified February 3, 1913, the 16th amendment established Congress’s right to impose a Federal income tax.

1909 is AFTER

1787 Constitutional Convention

1788 ratified by the ninth state (minimum requirement)

1789 Constitutional government begins.
