Stephanie Wilkinson was at home Friday evening nearly 200 miles from the White House when the choice presented itself.
Her phone rang about 8 p.m. It was the chef at the Red Hen, the tiny farm-to-table restaurant that she co-owned just off Main Street in Lexington, Va.
Sarah Huckabee Sanders had just walked in and sat down, the chef informed her.
He said the staff is a little concerned. What should we do? Wilkinson told The Washington Post. I said Id be down to see if its true.
It seemed unlikely to her that President Trumps press secretary should be dining at a 26-seat restaurant in rural Virginia. But then, it was unlikely that her entire staff would have misidentified Sanders, who had arrived last to a table of eight booked under her husbands name.
As she made the short drive to the Red Hen, Wilkinson knew only this:
She knew Lexington, population 7,000, had voted overwhelmingly against Trump in a county that voted overwhelmingly for him. She knew the community was deeply divided over such issues as Confederate flags. She knew, she said, that her restaurant and its half-dozen servers and cooks had managed to stay in business for 10 years by keeping politics off the menu.
And she knew she believed that Sarah Huckabee Sanders worked in the service of an inhumane and unethical administration. That she publicly defended the presidents cruelest policies, and that that could not stand.
Im not a huge fan of confrontation, Wilkinson said. I have a business, and I want the business to thrive. This feels like the moment in our democracy when people have to make uncomfortable actions and decisions to uphold their morals.

I have a business, and I want the business to thrive."
With 26 seats?
It sounds like more of a hobby than a real business.
i understand that. i am just saying she shouldn’t hide behind her staffs made up concerns.
There’s that “M” word again. Sorry princess, commie lib “democrats” don’t have morals. They never have had them. Grow up.
As in separating children from their mother?
The leftist courts have already ruled that it is constitutional to discriminate against someone for their political affiliation.
Wilkinson must be a liar. If you go to Yelp and read the reviews, tens of thousands of commie libs “ate there last night” and found it an enjoyable experience with “great food” brought in by “talented farmers”.
She should told the staff to spit in their food like Jesse Jackass.
No real reason that the town would be full of communists. I was thinking maybe a lot of retired civil servants -- but income level is pretty low for that. (The demographics sound more like what the libs think of Trump voters, but aren't.)
I wonder if her server complained about black guests, if she would ask them to leave?
I don't have any problem with that as long as they warn me ahead of time. Better to not go to the restaurant than to have them spit, **** or **** in my food.

The left says Trump supporters are nazi’s. The first thing the nazi’s did was not to allow Jews to come to their businesses. Replace Jews with Republicans...
This louse is a cousin of Meryl Streep?? Explains a lot - the airhead who ruined many apple farmers over a nonexistent contamination by Alar; who wildly applauded the “art” of pedophile Roman Polanski who raped a 13 year old girl; who publicly called the pig rapist Harvey Weinstein “God” while he continued on his rampage of assaults against young women. Go home to New York City (Not the State or Long Island), louse, and take your cohorts who abandoned socialism to try and bring it to Virginia.
People should enter the place, ask them if this is the restaurant that did not server her, then after they say yes, announce they are walking across the street to another place to eat.
Well, one black guest could have been Barak Obama, who was responsible for the pictures in the “press” that they blamed on Trump. Imagine this witch from New York throwing HIM out for the policy he began and of which she complained.
Neither should a persons chosen sex practices be a protected class, but it is. Im not in favor of making it illegal to kick someone out for their political views, but lets also roll it back that you can sue a business for not agreeing to disseminate your views on sex.
“The leftist courts have already ruled that it is constitutional to discriminate against someone for their political affiliation.”
That works both ways. The homosexuals come in the bakers shop. Baker asks them any political question, automatically says “get out of my shop because I vehemently disagree with your political opinion.”
I also bet she told the Christian baker he was an evil homophobe who had to bake the cake.
She is about to find out $$. People should make reservations and not show, show up a loudly complain, disupt every sitting. Harass their patrons. Just make their life miserable...
