After visiting a migrant detention facility on Friday, California Sen. Kamala Harris (D) accused the Trump administration of committing "crimes against humanity."
Harris visited the Otay Mesa Detention Facility near San Diego, California, to meet with migrant mothers who had been separated from their children, according to Bloomberg.
"This is outrageous," Harris said, addressing a crowd of several hundred protesters outside the facility, Bloomberg reported. "This is clearly a crime against humanity that is being committed by the United States government and we have to stop it."
Harris blasted the administration for giving "no indication" of how the process of reuniting separated migrant families would work.
More than 2,000 migrant children were separated from their parents upon crossing into the U.S. illegally under the Trump administration's "zero tolerance" policy from April to May. The policy, announced in April, sought to aggressively prosecute migrants who crossed the southern border illegally, often leading to children being separated from their parents as the adults awaited court dates.
Harris described the detention facility as a "prison."
"I am a career prosecutor; I have visited many prisons and jails. That is a prison," she said.
During her visit to the facility, which is operated by private prison company CoreCivic Inc., Harris spoke with three immigrant mothers who said they had been forcibly separated from their children at the U.S.–Mexico border with limited or no contact.

Criminal Penalties for Unlawful Reentry
In case the above penalties aren’t enough to deter illegal U.S. entrants, a separate section of the law adds felony penalties for reentry (or attempted reentry) in cases where the person had been convicted of certain types of crimes and thus removed (deported) from the U.S., as follows:
(1) People removed for a conviction of three or more misdemeanors involving drugs, crimes against the person, or both, or a felony (other than an aggravated felony), shall be fined, imprisoned for up to ten years, or both.
(2) People removed for a conviction of an aggravated felony shall be fined, imprisoned for up to 20 years, or both.
(3) People who were excluded or removed from the United States for security reasons shall be fined, and imprisoned for up to ten years, which sentence shall not run concurrently with any other sentence.
(4) Nonviolent offenders who were removed from the United States before their prison sentence was up shall be fined, imprisoned for up to ten years, or both.
What’s more, someone deported before a prison sentence was complete may be incarcerated for the remainder of the sentence of imprisonment, without any reduction for parole or supervised release.

They all appear to have cell phones-—because the media is crying about how the young children cannot ‘remember’ their parent’s phone numbers. Since they are traveling, the reference has to be about CELL PHONES. Who pays for those phones? Where does the bill go? These people no longer are ‘living at their own home’.
