Legendary Austin music and BBQ venue Stubb's has pledged to stop using plastic drinking straws. In a tweet, Stubb's said they would discontinue use "effective immediately" and also highlighted just how many straws Americans use in a day: We pledged to stop using plastic drinking straws. Americans use approximately 500 million straws daily. That's enough straws to circle the earth 2.5x. Effective immediately we will no longer be using straws. Join us in fighting pollution by saying 'no' to plastic drinking straws!

Darn ... I like his bbq sauce.
Bring Your Own Straws to Stubb's!
Be generous. Bring enough to share with friends.
Years ago I was in a famous BBQ place in Taylor, TX. Standing in line. Building has a wonderful blackish patina on the inside from years of wonderful bbq smoke. Lady in line looks around, grimaces, and loudly literally asks "do you have non smoking?" as if it was nicotine that covered the walls. The eye rolling throughout the restaurant was hilarious.
“Hey doc...it hurts when I do this.”
Doc: “Then, don’t do *this*”.
Just don’t go to Stubbs, or, if you must, stop by Kroger and get a whole box of plastic straws and hand them out to the crowd. Make sure you throw them on the floor as you leave the venue.
Sometimes, the push subsides when you decide to PUSH BACK.
Heretic!!!
If they didn’t put fifty tons of ice in the cups to save money on the drink, we wouldn’t need straws.
SBR ain't all that great. Ever read the content label?
Are Rubbers still OK?
I guess I will be upping my plastic straw usage, effective immediately.
He’s being PC to buy time for himself. He knows the same environmental arguments will someday be used to outlaw selling beef and then he’ll either fold or go broke selling beans and slaw.
That too;)
It’s Austin trying to be SF!
Pandering to their market or bragging about another way to cut their expenses and maintain or improve their bottom line? I’m sure I’ve been through Austin, but I can’t recall every stopping there for anything. General rule when travelling around Texas is avoid Austin and Houston. Don’t need the hassle of liberals running amuck.
Ever notice that folks who would not normally use straws at home almost always peel and use them in restaurants?
