House GOP leaders push immigration vote to next week (Amnesty?)

House GOP leaders in a surprise move Thursday night pushed back a vote on a compromise immigration bill until next week, underscoring the difficulty they're facing in winning votes — and how the stakes have been raised by the crisis at the border.

The decision to delay the vote, which had already been postponed from Thursday to Friday, followed a two-hour conference meeting designed to brief members on the measure’s contents.

Lawmakers, many of them worried about backing a measure that conservatives have described as providing amnesty to some undocumented workers, had complained that they didn’t have enough time to read and digest the nearly 300-page bill rolled out late Tuesday night.

Lawmakers leaving the meeting said the bill will need to be changed even more if it is to have any hope of winning passage.

“We're going to keep working — there are good ideas being discussed. We're trying to see if we can come to a consensus,” Majority Whip Steve Scalise (R-La.) told reporters. “So there are still complicated issues we're working through, but we're going to keep trying.”

Republicans face pressure to get something done because of the week-long crisis caused by the White House’s “zero tolerance” policy on the border, which resulted in roughly 2,000 children being separated from their parents.

Why not hold off on that until we have a new Speaker of the House, next week?

I don’t think it’ll pass both houses, and I don’t think the President will sign it unless he can find a way to turn it to the MAGA agenda.

IMO, this is all about A: virtue signalling, and B: trying to get R voters to stay home in November. Nothing more.

Trump is pre-committed to signing this into law.

And therein lies the root of the “crisis the border”. Which really isn’t a crisis.

These illegal alien are being treated humanely as possible and we are not going to just throw open the borders.

Trump has yet to fight seriously for funding of the wall. It appears to have been an election gimmick, nothing more.

If an amnesty betrayal is passed, third world immigration may actually increase under Trump from Obama.

And “MAGA” will be the greatest swindle in American political history.

Push it out to just after the midterms. Need a massive GOP and Independent turnout to vote in scores of patriots to get this sh*t done.

Been draggin’ on since before 2006 when the wall was funded but Jorge 43 blew it off.

Close and militarize the southern border. Anyone who comes within 100’ of the border not in the zone of a Customs inspection station should be shot on site.

No more immigrants, period. We need to assimilate the ones that are already here.

The GOPe offers an illusion of tough talk to sell a reality of amnesty for tens of millions of future Democratic voters.

Is he really?

Is there some kind of law saying that Presidents aren’t allowed to change their mind?

This one won’t pass either.

The Conservative bloc will not vote for it because they are smart enough to know it will end their congressional career.

You can take that to the bank.

Give the rats everything they want in exchange for the wall. The only caveats is if a crime is committed, the entire family is deported. The other caveat is until the wall is fully built, no one is released or can collect any benefits.

Why won’t the POS pass with the same votes that killed the better bill today? The Worst of the Rinos plus the Rats. Looks to me like it probably passes. Then the same thing happens in the Senate or am I missing something?

“Republicans face pressure to get something done”

Bias much? The only ones facing pressure are the Dems, who voted against st the Goodlatte bill entirely and have stated they want catch-and-release only. It’s backfiring, as the Rasmussen poll today indicates: 53% support the Administration, and blame parents who abandon their children after sending them across the border. Trump is winning the PW battle, as evidenced by the increased vitriol spewing from the left.

When the last resort is personal attacks, you know they are losing the debate.
