Subtitle:Legislation stresses importance of maintaining prosecution of first-time illegal border crossers
Posted on Mar 19 2015
WASHINGTON, DC U.S. Sens. Jeff Flake (R-Ariz.) and John McCain (R-Ariz.), today introduced S. Res. 104, legislation expressing the sense of the Senate regarding Operation Streamline, a program that has seen success in reducing recidivism among illegal border crossers. The resolution, which is co-sponsored by U.S. Sens. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) and Ron Johnson (R-Wisc.), also calls on the Obama administration to immediately remove any directives or policies that would bar the prosecutions of first-time border crossers under this program.
Operation Streamline is a joint initiative administered by the departments of Homeland Security and Justice. In place since 2005, the program has been associated with a zero-tolerance approach, including criminally prosecuting illegal border crossers. It has been effective in the Border Patrols Yuma, Ariz., sector, with apprehensions dropping from 140,000 in 2005 the year Operation Streamline was implemented to less than 6,000 in 2014. By comparison, the Tucson sector, experienced more than 87,000 illegal crossings last year.
Despite Operation Streamlines demonstrated success, the United States Attorneys Office for the District of Arizona will reportedly no longer be prosecuting first-time illegal border crossers. This threatens the programs established effectiveness as a constraint on illegal-immigration.
For too long, Arizonans have paid a disproportionate price when it comes to illegal immigration, said Flake. The Obama administrations rollback of prosecutions under Operation Streamline threatens to water down an effective deterrent for illegal border crossers. At the very least, the steps that have led to some measure of improvement at the border should be preserved.
Arizonas Yuma Sector has gone from being one of the busiest sectors for illegal immigration in the U.S. to one of the most secure thanks to the stepped-up efforts of our law enforcement officials under Operation Streamline, said McCain. Despite this success, the Obama administration continues to scale back important progress by ceasing to prosecute illegal border crossers. The citizens of Arizona cannot afford to lose the gains that have been made to secure the southern border, and I will not stop fighting to ensure that we have the best policies in place to keep our communities safe.

Separating adults from kids.
Like the Obamacare repeal.
Still on Flakes Senate.gov website!
How can McShamey introduce anything? He’s not in DC. As far as any one knows he may not even be coherent.
This was 2015 back when Obama was POTUS and McCain and Flake called for zero tolerance policy because they knew their bill would never be law.
Now they are against it.
Maybe he’s slipping notes out of his casket?
The President needs to have one single guy who pulls out all of the legislative material that McCain and Flake wrote over the years, and start openly discussing how incompetent both men were. They weren’t just lousy at their jobs, but they have absolutely no memory of what they did.
We should refer to the ‘dynamic duo’ as the ‘flip-floppers’.
It was all a fake, they never intended their bills to be law.
It was a periodic trick to win their primaries.
But with Trump POTUS and a GOP congress and the possibility of being law that trick no longer works.
So now they oppose their past bills and votes.
So Flake wont even try again and probably not McCain either .
Like the adult cartoon, ‘futurama’, mccain’s head only will live and interact from within a bottle.
McCain from his deathbed absence in the Senate where he cannot or will not show to vote as a senator co-pen’s a bill while writing his mem-wires? Me thinks this Old Man, he Play Dead, just to screw us at his end!
If you are talking about the bill subject of this thread you completely mis-understood this.
This is about a bill that he and Flake put up in 2015 that completely contradicts their positions now.
