"All of us are horrified at the images we're seeing." He said he's talked with the White House about legislation he plans to introduce to stop the separations, though its exact language hasn't yet been released... "We can stop this. The legislation I'm filing this week would prohibit separating families, would mandate that kids should stay with their parents." He said his bill would double the number of federal immigration judges to ensure that asylum cases are heard within two weeks. "If the claim is not valid, and many of those coming here illegally don't have valid claims for asylum, then within 14 days that claim should be processed and they should be returned to their home country," Cruz said. "During that expedited process, we can and should keep families together, keep children with their moms and dads and we need to stand up temporary shelters."

Cruz’ core principle is opportunism.
Thank you for posting this. I was thinking the same as you.
“Ted is calling their bluff (great stadegy). “
Agreed.
The Ted haters here are quite analogous to the media on this topic. They don’t seem to know or care that what they say has nothing to do with reality.
I don’t see a single hater explaining what is wrong, exactly, with Ted’s plan. Or what Trump, the guy who is really untrustworthy regarding legislative matters (TrumpRyanCare, etc), would find wrong with Ted’s plan.
No, it shows Ted Cruz is, and has always been a despicable scumbag.
“I dont see a single hater explaining what is wrong, exactly, with Teds plan. Or what Trump, the guy who is really untrustworthy regarding legislative matters (TrumpRyanCare, etc), would find wrong with Teds plan.”
First, what is wrong with it is that it undermines a united political front on the right, and it’s very narrow focus takes away leverage for a bigger deal on Immigration.
Secondly, Never-Trumpers like yourself do not belong here. Go to DU or some other site to spout you feckless nonsense.
Ah, shut up. Idiot.
“Never-Trumpers like yourself do not belong here.”
Wow, that was easy. I rest my case regarding the Ted hater / media analogy. You have no idea what you are talking about and sound like a college kid wanting a ‘safe zone’.
This is the Free Republic, NOT the Trump loyalist bandwagon.
And, yes, I voted for both Cruz and Trump. Mature minds can handle that. Some personality cultists cannot.
Then following the law is not a good idea.
It’s either TCruz again or the rise of “Beto”.
The depth of political strategy is missing in most of the post which are basically reduced to snark and snippy replies. I miss the old Free Republic of years gone by.
Yet you continue to criticize him on an issue of great import.
And anyone who voted for Ted Cruz is no better than he is.
Corrupt, devious and “doesn’t belong”.
No it doesn’t. Ted has always been an open borders guy
What? That’s the best you can do to defend and promote Lyn’ Ted? Most Never Trumper Lyn’ Ted propagandists can do a bit better.
He and his dad never explained his dad’s ties to Kennedy’s killer. Lyn’ Ted instead quit the campaign like the next day. Still curious about that.
“...anyone who voted for Ted Cruz ... doesnt belong.”
Good grief, you have it bad.
For crying out loud, Trump would NOT be president today if not for folks like me. We/Cruz absolutely slaughtered Trump in WI, quite a spanking actually. Then we took the only mature route in the general and voted for The Don. I’ll spread the word that you don’t approve, Mr Hogg.
Irrational purity has the same capacity and same destiny as the once seemingly indespensable phone booth.
Use your last quarter wisely, get help.
Same old Cruz and no real surprise.
When you have no real convictions, taking a stand is not one of the cards you can play.
Remember when Ted was handing out teddy bears on the border.
Most of us who voted for Trump knew that Cruz never really had the STOMACH to fight hard for border security.
At best, it was just ‘another issue’ for Cruz. And it’s hard to blame him, given what his wife does and the fact that he relied on money from the big-time GOP donors, who virtually all demand open borders.
And don’t take this as a hit on Cruz, he was no worse than the other non-Trump candidates...and he was basically trapped on the issue, like the rest of them - if he wanted any financing.
