The latest outrage by the Trump administration is its policy of "ripping" children away from parents who've crossed the border illegally. As with so many other things involving Trump, there's plenty of emotion but precious little in the way of facts.
The furor reached critical mass after the Department of Homeland Security said on Friday that 1,995 children had been separated from their illegal border crossing parents from mid-April through May. That number included, DHS said, cases where the adults were arrested for illegal entry, immigration violations, or possible criminal conduct.
The practice has generated a rising storm of protests, including from Republicans, ever since Attorney General Jeff Sessions announced the administration's "zero tolerance" for illegal border crossers. Laura Bush took to the Washington Post's op-ed page to decry it as "cruel" and "immoral." Trump supporter Franklin Graham called it "disgraceful."
Trump himself says he doesn't want to see families separated while the legal process works its way out, and then went on to blame Democrats for the problem.
So what's going on here?
First, it's important to note that many of the "separations" don't last long at all.
As Rich Lowry explains in a detailed article in National Review, "when a migrant is prosecuted for illegal entry, he or she is taken into custody by the U.S. Marshals," in which case, as when other adults are incarcerated in the U.S., they are separated from their children.
Lowry notes that "The criminal proceedings are exceptionally short, assuming there is no aggravating factor such as a prior illegal entry or another crime. Migrants generally plead guilty, and then are sentenced to time served, typically all in the same day."

The Department of Homeland Security says that from October 2017 to February 2018 it saw “a 315% increase in the number of cases with minors FRAUDULENTLY posing as ‘family units’ to gain entry.”
They hysteria is meant to distract from the IG report
It’s a complete nothingburger intended to get the IG report off the front page. There will be a new outrage next week.
It is the very essence of “fake news”
Fake not because it is a fabrication, but fake because it’s significance is enormously over-advertised.
A classic example of how the so-called “news” media is nothing more than he propaganda arm of he Democrat Party.
I say we have a twofer where as we bring illegal alien families together and send them back to their HOME countries and put the liberals in cages for their attempted coup.
And the week after that...and the week after that...and the week after that...etc....etc...etc...ad infinitum.
And then what? Deported? Released? Sent to the welfare office?

Media and Liberals are in constant apoplexy at all things Trump. This shows they do indeed occupy an alternate universe from real working folks… Trump’s strongest base! Liberals always sell fear of the ABSTRACT, while NEVER recognizing and often denying the fear of the REAL. If you fear the real threat of an ISIS nut yelling “Allahu Akbar” while shooting down “infidels” or driving a truck through a crowd, you’re a “bigot”! If you fear an attack by an illegal immigrant felon on his 10th return from deportation, you’re a “hater” (yes... murder victims are separated from their families).
BUT… If you fear the abstract nonsense that Donald Trump will put you in a concentration camp or we’re going back to lynching, child labor, back alley abortions and segregation… then you’re a Liberal!!!
Hysteria at things long promised but yet to happen (no ice at the poles… rising sea levels drowning cities, etc) is their constant tired worn out old screed. Creative ideas to actually help the middle class are dismissed as “unworkable” and denial of real threats have become their insanity norm. Now we have the latest hysteria… kids separated at the border. (YAWN!).

Immediately after crossing the border at anywhere other than the designated crossing points, the entire entourage, men, women, and children, should be whisked away to some offshore island, and held there until they have been thoroughly vetted, to assure ourselves that if they are refugees, that a real situation exists, and they are not merely part of a human trafficking conduit. If they are sincere applicants for residency within the US, either as a relative of someone already here, or as a potential permanent resident in their own right, then there are procedures to apply for that category, but first, they return to their home country.
No release into the open population, for either parents or children. If they actually are the parents of the children so detained.
It’s Really This Simple:
The sole objective of the open borders Democrat Socialists is to flood the United States with poor, illiterate and non-contributing foreign aliens who can be granted amnesty; easily enslaved with welfare dependency; and, form the basis of a new minority underclass that will ensure a permanent electoral majority for the foreseeable future.
EVERYTHING you see and hear from Democrat Socialists and their co-conspiring media is a direct extension of this objective, whether it be their histrionic outrage over separating families; opposition to border wall construction; liberal judges granting voting rights to non-citizens; every “astroturfed” protest; tolerance of the infiltration of murdering terrorists and gangs like MS-13; downplaying the escalation and horror of narcotics, adult human and child sex trafficking; establishing “sanctuary cities” in direct violation of federal immigration laws; and on, and on, and on.
All of these examples are just spokes in the Democrat Socialist wheel, but the hub of the wheel is the criminal and unconstitutional acquisition of unconstrained and unopposed power to control the lives of ordinary American citizens, while enriching themselves and their criminal enablers at the trough of the public treasury. It really is this simple. Don’t allow yourself to be distracted.

Logic and reason have no meaning. Democrats found an issue they can use and win big on, and they are winning.
The Russia thing is falling apart, the Democrat brownshirts in the FBI are being outted. The Democrats have nothing to run on but: “Trump is bad”. But this issue comes to light, and the media is dutifully doing a full court press.
Then they found this issue. It’s pure gold. In the court of public opinion, Trump and Republicans are being slaughtered. The best that the Republicans can do now is end the practice, and let the Democrats look for something else to use.
As a side note, Sessions recused himself from the Russia hoax. Sessions is behind this toxically unpopular practice. Is Sessions not very bright, or is he a saboteur?

The Dems, and a lot of Republicans, could give a crap about the IG report. They know/ knew nothing would happen beyond a bunch of showboating and hand wringing.
This immigration crap is nothing more than a campaign issue for them.

I’m not so sure about their “winning” on this issue.
What is happening IMHO, is the Trump Supporters have DOUBLED DOWN on their support from Trump based on his staunchly fighting to keep his campaign promises on immigration.
Democrat left-wing supporters on the other hand are likewise going to be motivated to fight against Trump at the polls and this is but one issue they will fight on.
Trump will not win if he backs off from his promises and shows signs of weakness and disappoint his base. The Dems are going to hate him no matter what (not even if he softens his stance). Better to remain steadfast and fight politically. This IS the Hill to die on.
It remains to be seen which side will be more motivated to turn out come election day.
I think Trump should speak to the fact that this children in cages scandal is nothing but misdirection to shift attention away from the IG report.
