An emergency room doctor at a Northern California hospital has been suspended after she was caught on video allegedly ridiculing a patient after he collapsed from an apparent anxiety attack.
Samuel Bardwell, a 20-year-old student at West Valley College in Saratoga, made a trip to the El Camino Hospital Los Gatos after passing out during a basketball practice on June 11, The Mercury News reported.
Beth Keegstra, the ER doctor who attended to Bardwell who reportedly was unable to speak and was numb at the time seemingly didn't take the man's health claims seriously when she was caught on camera allegedly mocking him.
"Sir, you are the least sick of all the people who are here, who are dying," Keegstra is heard saying in a video recorded by Bardwell's father, Donald. "There, you picked your head up. Now don't try to tell me you can't move. C'mon, sit up."
The doctor, who Bardwell reportedly waited four hours to see, begins to loudly tell the 20-year-old to "sit up" and is seen trying to push him upwards on the hospital bed.
"She's literally yanking my arm," Bardwell says, repeatedly telling Keegstra he can't physically sit up.
"You want us to wheel you to your house in the gurney?" the doctor quips, before laughing at Bardwell as he says it's difficult for him to inhale.
"He can't inhale, wow! He must be dead! Are you dead, sir?" Keegstra says, later adding "this is ridiculous."

She looks like she's about one step away from being an ER patient herself.
There are thousands in EDs waiting 4 to 6 hours right now, for a tooth ache or constipation right now. And youre paying for it. At least this patient had a truly emergent condition.
Guilty!
Anxiety attacks last, at most, 30 minutes.

This guy needs to get over his issue. He wasnt having an anxiety attack this many hours later and she saw that.
Reinstate the doctor. Both of you are out to lunch.
She looks like she might live in a van down by the river.
what a monster
where did you get your medical degree? obviously the kid had some sort an issue
You might have a point if you had any idea what you were talking about.
You don't.
Agreed. He needed to listen to the ER doctor and move on to get another kind of help. Maybe a rational emotive therapist can help him. He could try listening to recorded soothing sounds, quitting marijuana, avoiding stimulants, quitting marijuana, getting some exercise, getting more sleep, etc. And maybe quitting marijuana would help. ;-)
Heh. Fun thread. Kooks...woodwork. ;-)
I think her problem that day was that she had clipped her name badge onto her left nipple and that was putting her in a bad mood.
Pat him on the head, give him a sugar pill and send him home with a referral to a psychiatrist.
I think he has an issue I’ve seen before. A recruit died during Army Basic training. He fell back claiming shortness of breath. His buddies knew he had this issue so no problem. He kept pushing himself on till he dropped. EMT said his O2 level was very low. Guy was declared dead at the base hospital.
Turns out his heart had a defect where it couldn’t get enough oxygenated blood back in to feed the body. The inbound arteries from the lungs were too small or something like that.
FWIR this condition is deadly to very healthy people in the prime of their life, like athletes. Their bodies can burn oxygen so efficiently it can kill them.
This ‘doctor’ needs to be sent back to school.
I am sure after dealing with several folks broken bodies she saw this snowflake as what he was.
An entitled whiner.
How much of a payout is he going to need to be made whole?
That’s not a Doctor! That’s Pat!
wow Michael Moores sister is a Dr. Who knew?
Before my wife and I hot married she was an ER Director in Waco Texas, prior to that she was an ER Director in Houston TX. She spent close to 20 years in that position. Her stories of what happens in ER’s and the people coming is saddening. While there are some serious cases and warrant the visit, most are alcohol and drug related. The number of people who abuse the ER’s or what they call the ER regulars take up about 40% of their time. They mimic the perfect symptoms in an effort to get the drugs they’re looking for. As far as the waiting for 4 hours thing let’s just say they’ll wait even longer at the thought of getting relief from problems such as withdrawal symptoms such as those from drugs are alcohol. Both can cause severe anxiety attacks. It’s a crazy place.
Got married! But I must admit she was pretty hot and still is.
Youre funny!
A qualified ER doctor agrees with me.
Where did YOU get your degree? Zimbabwe?
